HTID was fantastic, the atmosphere was electric, the music was top notch and it was an all round good night. However, the only thing that let down the night was the fact that most DJ's mixed using CD's. Although most of the mixing was done well, it looked awful. Thankfully DJ Dougal, Mark EG and a few others did mix 'properly' and used Vinyl and looked good doing it.
My Question is: Should DJ's be using CD's when mixing, or should they stick to vinyl.
It don't matter who are or what you do, HARDCORE is for you.

I totally agree that spinnin vinyl is alot better than mixing with CD's. The problem is that now technology comes along every day and also with oil running out, it is probably the way to go in using CD's. The problem I find is that all tunes that are released on vinyl does not seem to be released on CD, but that may well all change well CD's are mostly going to be used rather than vinyl.
Who knows what the future holds for vinyl and CD?

It's all math and logic... People want to hear new tunes... CD-R is the best way to do it...

Dougal played the last set, which was an anthems set hence no new tracks.
Silver said it they use cd's to play new tracks(not released or on promo).

hahaha
Very funny. Well Silver, what you were saying about CD-R's, are artists actually releasing tunes on CD after it has come onto vinyl?

OK, think of it this way. 99.99 % of hardcore tracks are made on a computer. CD-R is the most obvious format to play the tracks on. If a producer had to pay for dub plate for every new track they created it would cost the earth. Also these days the producers tend to share their promos with each other to play in clubs before they go on general release.
It is quite very expensive to produce a small run (say 10) copies of vinyl but *VERY* cheap to produce 10 copies of 1 CD. Only when a track goes into a full run (500 or more copies of the same vinyl) does it become economically viable to press the vinyl.
Also, think of how many tracks you can fit on a CD compared to a vinyl. Now imagine the poor DJ (or DJ helper!!! he he) that has to lug all of that vinyl around from club to club! Now can you see why CDs are the more popular choice for the big DJs.
Me - I will never *EVER* CD on vinyl. It is cheating!

I understand the reasoning for using CD's. I know it's cheaper and easier to transport tunes when they are on CD. My problem is how it looks. i.e HTID, Those mixing CD pressed a button and stood for a few minutes and then pressed another button. The mixing looked like 'wedding disco' and these 'superstar' DJ's looked like like 'wedding DJ's'. Those that were mixing Vinyl looked the part that a DJ should look like and were much, much more into the mixing that they were doing. Hixxy, Breeze and Styles musically played a good set but it was like watching paint dry. Can you imagine Mark EG palying CD's? The day he does I stop clubbing.......
It don't matter who are or what you do, HARDCORE is for you.

Does it matter what the music is mixed on?
CD Is better in all ways ,Vinyl doesn't have anything over it now and with you being able to do around the same thing on CD decks as on turntables....CD is the way!

There has just been a 20 page discussion about this on ush, haha, and to be honest it doesnt matter what you use, on a club pa, its still music
and before anyone assumes, there is NO more skill in mixing vinyl that cd, none at all, your still doing the same things, releasing the record/pressin the cue button, then adjusting the speed of the record to fit th eother one, for beat mixing both methods are very very similar, and equaly as difficult.
In response to the oil comment, cd's are also made out of plastic requiring oil to make it, and i think we have far far far more things to worry about than media materials when the oil runs out ;)
Its all about technology, music is heavily loaded with technology, so embrace it, and move on ;0

As Oli said mixing off Cd or Vinyl is no easier or harder from each other really.
If the cd player has vinyl mode then you can release the cue point of the tune from the platter just like releasing a given point with vinyl anyway.
Maybe the visual thing is lost but some of the cd players are getting more dj friendly so who knows what will come out next.
When i buy new tunes it is usually on vinyl just because it is my prefered medium to use, hell even our first release on tilted even thou i had the tunes on cd for ages could not wait for the promos to be done from the pressing house
Same as when i am given tunes,if it gets a release still buy the full release on vinyl if available
(weird hehe)
Some Labels are now starting to sell Cd's ,,,,but can be a dangerous game.
Saying using cd's makes it easier for a dj instead of having to carry 1 or 2 record bags always makes me laugh, haha now't wrong with a bit off manual labour
As you can proberly tell this is a subject I don't have much to say on
