Here is a question on my mind:

Is it more important to have a good variety (i.e. different sounding hardcore) of tracks in a mix, OR is it more important to have a consistant style (i.e. all or mostly tracks with vocals).

P.S.: Who here finds mixes with tracks with a lot of vocals anoying? I ask this because just about every vinyl I bought has vocals.

Personally, I like to go for a consitiant style or theme. Vocal Tracks are good but I wouldn't like a whole set of vocal songs without instermentals

do what you feel. mixing is about your interpretation of the music and how you arrange it. it might not go together well at first but you will find what goes best together for the experience you want to create.

i guess it depends on who you're playing for, but it's been my experience that an all out anthem set tends to loose most peoples interests. be creative and try not to use tunes that everyone else is using.

an all out vocal set tends to be boring because most people a) don't know the words and b) would rather be dancing

i like to try and stay consistent throughout my mixes, and build them up. too many vocals do start annoying me yes, but thats just because i am naturally a freeform hardcore lover (Nu Energy/Bonkerz/Digital Beatz etc).

some people play a variety of styles in their mixes, which is good, but its important to realise that if the crowd ur playin to are not buzzing to the particular sound ur playing that you have something to quickly switch over to.
