I have been to many events but have never been impressed with the MC. I also thought that they spoiled the tunes by talking over them and repeating lyrics. However, I was watching MC Storm during the final set at HTID 2 and watched what he was doing and I was very impressed, his job is to get the crowd going and he has it down to an art. Thankfully, this has solved my problem of not liking MC'ing and has helped me enjoy the sets alot more. What are your views?

I've never been to raves (might be because im live in bloody sweden), but listen to mixes with a live MC, has made it just unlistenable. Live it might sound good, but not on a stereo at home when you want to lsiten to the tunes

I still think that MC'ing should not be on cd's as this still ruins them. At raves though they now have my full support

MCs are wicked, at a rave the interaction with the crowd and their antics on stage really sets things off :) I think they're great on recorded mixes from raves too, it really captures the "liveness" of the event and you can hear what they're saying better, as well.

So yeah. MCs rule :-)

The very best are really good but theres a hell of a lot of people that **** up every tape there on and never shut up. A good back to back combo can be immense at a rave and i do buy tape packs of events i was at but most the time if i'm listenin to beats i want them as they are without people shoutin over them. A lotta cd mixes i have are from spain with no MC's and the dj's put on a real show themselves so they dont need MC's to entertain the crowd, with 2 dj's on 4 decks doing real turntablism cant be beat and i'd love to see a few acts like them booked at hardcore raves for a bit of a change.

Heavy tunes are buit for MC's (Terrabeat - Devastate Feat. MC Sharkey) but I dislike when they talk, shout or sing over the main song vocals or siths, but that's very rarely with the nicer more uplifting songs of happy hardcore that I like.

My view is that a lot of MC's ruin a perfectly good mix by shouting over the tunes and don't stop!

If your at an event its fine but if your listening to a live mix at home, its not enjoyable to listen to.

hehe, i agree with capone

also - i remember two things i read on the Kniteforce website

"A good MC turns a good set into a fantastic one. A bad MC can ruin whatever your playing."

and on a humorous (and true) note:

"in the end, a rave without an MC is fine, but a rave without a Dj is a load of people standing in a room listening to a guy shout. "

^^ haha, thats Priceless, Triquatra!

but yea, being 15 i haven't been to any raves yet. But I think that the live sets are amazing, i really do. I have the Slammin Vinyl NYE tape pack and the HTID one... and the MC's are amazing. If you dont like MC's then you have to give them one last chance by listening to the Hixxy, Styles & Breeze set with Storm & Whizzkid on the go... it's amazing! It also adds to the atmosphere of the live recordings... wouldnt be the same without the MC's

I'll agree with most people. An MC can be good, but can also completely screw up an evening. I've actually left a room even though a DJ (Fresh from Bad Company) was playing great music because the MC was so awful and kept turning the volume up on HIMSELF.
What I would love to see would be a return to MCs like Stevie Hyper-D. I used to have a tape with him on it and he completely took over that party. It was the one with him and Kenny Ken, that ROCKED!!

whizzkid & sharkey are really the only two i like. ..
whizzkid because he works with the tune and half sings rather than just shouting like mc storm

sharkey because he gets the crowd going absolutely MENTAL none better IMO!

I agree with that mate... I really do like Whizzkid. I've got this set from Uprising on the 10th April this year... and it's Hixxy, with this nutcase of an MC that just shouts his way through the likes of Tantric, Sweetheart and 24/7... muppet
