yeah, well done mate i quit just over a year ago now, so glad i did. the longer you've stopped for the easier it is to resist as well, it just gets easier.
i was sat with three people smoking in the pub for hours last night, three full packets sat there staring at me the whole time....... didnt touch one though, after a while you realise that it really isnt worth it.
also, think of all that extra cash you can now spend on vinyl

Well i cant quit totally without using any nicotinell products, If i had stuff to do that would give me other things to do, maby then. But i dont. Tryed to quit about 9 months ago, have some inhalator capsels left. Its not the real physical side effects that scare me. But the thing that makes it hard is, in my head theres something "clicking", i cant think anything then smoking. Last time all i could do is lie in bed staring the roof all day, i couldnt really consontrate on anything else then thinking how good it would feel to smoke. Its like having a huge headache and knowing you could make it go away if you wanted. I could stay without eating much longer then being without smoking. But i dont like smoking, i dont like the smell or anything in it, also when i smoke my cheast hurts pretty often, witch sucks. Anyway knowing how hard it is, i'm very happy you were able to quit :) I have only few cigs left, maby i wount buy any new ones this time...

See I am sort of like this, but at the moment I have avoided it. I mean I went to Paris for 5 days with the Chelsea lads, so you can imagine being pissed for all that time and I didnt touch one fag which I thought was good.

Cigarettes killed my grandfather when I was rather young, so I've never really had the desire to smoke myself. Plus the smell makes me absolutely nauseous, and I can't smoke with the medication I'm on (unless I want the increased risk of heart disease and stroke). I have many friends who were pack a day smokers and the incentive they told me moved them to quit was the fact that smoking kills people who don't even smoke. So if quitting for yourself isn't motivating enough, do it for the people around you.
And cheers to you Excessive, Jester, and anyone else who's quit as of yet. You have something to be massively proud of. Dropping any addiction is extremely difficult. I'm still working on my pop-tart addiction. <shudder>

That's it, I'm on a mission now.....
I've been promising myself that I'll quit for the last 5 years, but I'm still here, smoking away.
I used to smoke around 40 a day, then cut down to 10, now I'm back up to 20.
It's just a bloody pain. In the UK we pay between £4 & £5 a pack which is getting beyond a joke. I remember a time when I could buy a pack of 20 for a lot less than £2!!
I'm giving up now........ slowly at first. My regular brand is Lambert & Butler (which I've smoked for as long as I can remember), but I went out today & got some Silk Cut (low tar & nicotine content). I'll probably just have this pack, then buy another (even more reduced pack) tomorrow, then that's me done. I can't justify the damage to my health, my family's health and my bank balance anymore. It's too much of a financial burden to bare. My life is at the point now, where at 25, I've probably got around 5 years left in my prime (physically) before things go downhill & I turn into my dad. I need to quit this dirty habit before I start to turn into a fat slob with ill health & no prospects (not that my dad is, you understand!!).
This thread is one of the best I've read so far on any forum, basically for the fact that it shows that kicking the habit is not impossible.
Cheers guys & gals, I'll keep you posted

Well done Sakkara. My nan used to smoke like a hundred a day like 20 years ago...YES 100 A DAY!
She is now on around 10 a day now, which is really good for her especially smoking a excess amount like that for a long time. Smoking is a pile of shite, and like I said in my post before, I only really do it when I drinking down the pub. I still very pleased with myself for not smoking one fag when I was in Paris as usually I would of gone and bought packs since I was on the piss constantly for 5 days.
Go for it Sakkara, it will be well worth it

**UPDATE**
Well it's now October & the news is..............................................
I've been off the fags now for a week, & I don't feel too bad at all!!
I don't feel like smoking at all, I'm eating everything that's not nailed down & drinking a sh*t load of water all the time - but it's all good!!
I've got some room to put weight on anyway, I'm a bit gangly just now, so the new eating habit is more than welcome.
I'm not using nicotine products at all. I think that's me being plain old stubborn though. If I'm gonna do it, then it's got to be on my terms & I don't see the point in getting rid of a smoking habit to introduce a nicotine gum habit
That's all for today. Cheers again peeps.
Ian/Sakkara.

on average it takes 8 times to quite smoking, but do you want to be average.keep on it man it will get better and yes YOU should NOT I repeat NOT SMOKE THE SPLIFF it will sending toumbling down and you will more likly smoke if you do that.just smoke a spliff without the regular tabaco in it.and on the times when you always usually smoke after doing somthing i.e smoking;),sex, meal, what ever either ignore the urge or do somthing els.it will get better and think of all the cash you will save on not killing your self.
