So you are saying that if you wrote an album and put alot of time and effort into it and out of 100 people that had it only 5 bought it, you would be happy because at least they are listening to your music? The boot would def be on the other boot if you were losing money because of it.

ok ok ok i think people are missing the point!!!! I've got downloads of tunes that i couldn't cd mix because there from albums!!! downloading original singles and then distributing them is going to cause a serious problem!! Its not about the personal; financial gain of others!!! The money from those sales goes back into supporting the scene!!! I agree that shareing music increases interest but by giving complete hardcore singles for people to use is just ignorant....

They're talking about the music, and the one sharing the files says, hey, if you like that, you might like some hardcore. The downloader goes, yeah ok, let's have a listen, and downloads a couple of tunes, or a couple of mixes and ****ing loves it! So he downloads a few more, then starts searching the web for hardcore, reads up about it, probably even finds his way to this website, and a new hardcore fan is born. That person is very likely to go on to buy CD albums, maybe start DJing and buying vinyl, and going to raves (this is what REALLY supports the scene). This isn't a far fetched scenario either, it happens ALL THE TIME, and if it wasn't for filesharing then that person would never have discovered hardcore, never bought any, never gone to any raves, nothing.
Filesharing helps the scene grow. End of story. This "sue everyone" mentality is extremely short sighted and shows a deep lack of understanding about what this is all really about, and that is MUSIC, not making as much profit as possible.
Nice thought, too bad 90% of people are too greedy and selfcentered to it work. I have seen so many people say that "i never pay for music." "Its stupid to pay for something you can get for free" etc.
People that are used to buy CD's, are more likely to continue doing so. The next generation is used to getting everything free, and will not buy anything they can get free.

woo woo i'm not too keen on downloads to be honest!! If the world was full of selfless people it would be brilliant, unfortunatl;y there are tooooo many selfish tightfisted swines out there trying to save every penny they've got!!! To be fair I'm a DJ and i have stayed away from cd's simply for personal preferance, I love VINYL :-)

Hmmmmm, It's an interesting one.
However the music scene in general is doing great, and I for one am sure MP3's have helped the music scene(s) in general improve sales, and how music is now packaged and sold.

To be honest I agree. I mean I not saying everyone should just download and not buy it but it you can listen to the track before you buy it I guess.

In this part i agree, but it should be done by stores. I think its a disgrace that still only some of the small stores provide proper clips to listen before buying. When internet shopping was new, they sayd the products will be cheaper, coz the stores dont have to have physical store, yet it didnt. Now with keeping the same price, they cant even provide proper clips before buying US and German amazon's and CDJapan are probably the only big stores that even try to provide clips, and even they only give a 30 sec sample, witch is way too short, should be 3 times longer.
(Big) Stores should provide proper clips from all tunes, and sort them with proper genre names. So that you could just browse through the store to find something new. If someone says you should check that artist out, you should be able to go to a store and listen to it and if you like it then buy it. At least these mp3 stores provide proper clips, or so ive heard.

I'm 100% with Whispering (and those with similar views) on this one.
On the surface, downloading does look like it can help the scene - but when you know people who have no intention of EVER buying music (because they know they can get it so freely and easily from other sources) it pisses on the 'people will download a tune then go and buy similar' argument.
I can almost agree with those who might download just to check out the music then go on to buy more - and stuff like old mixes from tapes etc shouldn't really be classed the same as upfront tunes/albums. At least they're not directly doing harm to anybody's potential revenue (other than greedy event promoters).
I'm not naive enough to suggest that it'll ever stop but when people are so blatantly stealing and sharing 100's of hours worth of other's hard work then a line needs to be drawn.
As far as Mole is concerned, the little turd deserves everything he gets.

"Wow, you really need to take a serious look at your outlook on life. In case you hadn't noticed, the "music industry" is doing better than ever"
Erm... what are you basing that on? Seems pretty much the exact opposite to everything I've read or heard of late.
As for the hardcore scene... hah! Piracy is doing REAL damage to the hardcore scene right now, this is why there are less compilations, this is why labels are taking ages to release material, and this is why people have had to start looking at legitimate .mp3 sales and making material available on CD.
I find it even more amusing when I hear people talk about less "profit".... there is absolutely no way I'll break even on RFUCD001 in the near future, that I can see. Pirating it merely delays RFUCD002 and harms the label and artists overall. Do you think that the new CLSM album is raking in millions? Or do you think that EVERY single sale matters? Downloading it is bad enuff, you'd think people wouldn't mind paying for something that is actually worth the money WHILE helping the scene, but sharing it is reprehensible.
I don't really have much of an opinion on this whole Mole affair simply because I'm sure a lot of people are doing exactly the same thing, and what has happened here likely won't change that. I do, however, agree w/ all parties actions in response.
I do wish people would stop living in this candy-floss "loads of money in hardcore" pipe dream. I'm 5 figures down on RFU Recordingz alone.
I'm all for online mixes, I think that THEY help get people into the scene etc, no doubt. Filesharing the few commercial releases that can actually keep the scene alive? Really consider the ramifications of your actions people....
