Strangely enough, in the US, when someone says "I like hardcore," most people think that they are talking about hardcore punk or hardcore metal. So if you are in a group of freinds that respect electronic music, say hardcore, they will know what you are saying. If you are in a group of people that may not listen to techno, say hardcore techno or hardcore electronica, whatever suits you best. Most people in MY state scoff at the word techno, but are more intruiged by the word electronica, and will consider it music. When you say "techno" to a non-listener, they will think "Dub dub dub dub" and blinking lights, and generally will be turned off by it. When you say electronica... well its just different :P .
HOWEVER! Do not say "techno" in reference to hardcore to a hardcore listener. Because they will confuse it with actual techno, which is different than hardcore. For an explanation of genre's, go here: http://www.ishkur.com/music/ . :P have fun there, but dont take this guy too seriously, he's the most cynical guy on the planet when it comes to hardcore. And life in general. Oh, and remember, while you can always find free mixes online, its always better to support the hardcore record labels by buying CD's. They aren't the big buisness satanists like BMG, Sony, Universal, and all those bastards. And rember to buy those record label supporting CD's right here at shop.happyhardcore.com, so you can support hardcore radio, too! ----------------------------- This boot, your ass i r h0tx0r u r n0tx0r

I would suggest using the name Hardcore or Hardcore Dance or the ones lucificifus said. The genre names: Happy Hardcore, Freeform, Gabber, Nu Style Gabber, Makina, UK Hardcore etc, are all Hardcores Sub genres. And Hardcore is a "subgenre" of electronic music.
Same way as e.g. Skate Punk is a subgenre of Punk, and Punk is a subgenre of Rock.
Oh and all these genre names are for people to help categorize the music. E.g. if you come here and would want suggestions from Happy Hardcore, you would get more specific answers from people. Also it helps record stores to categorize the music so that its easier for the customers to browse only the type of music they are searching. But sometimes people start to categorize music so that even the people that listen the same genre, dont understand them. Then the whole purpose of the genres kind of becomes meaningless.
E.g. you came here to ask suggestions without knowing the subgenre names, but you used a CD to describe the music you are searching. And from that we knew what you were searching. So my point is (yes i actually have one :p) you dont need to use or know the subgenre names.
