Hello, all. I'm relatively new to the hardcore scene, and so far I love it!
However, I'm running into a problem. The more I listen to hardcore, the more formulaic it seems to me. Now, I know that, by definition, a genre is a set of music that follows a certain set of rules, and I know that.
But I believe that hardcore is widely-defined enough to allow for a GREAT deal of innovation, and I'm not sure where I should look. Are there any ground-breaking DJ's on the rise? I just tend to get tired of the same drumrolls, synths, break patterns, etc.
Thanks for all the support! I'm loving this community so far!

most of the finnish hardcore is pretty good. also check out kniteforce again.
the thing I love the most about hardcore is you can listen to a song and be able to pinpoint the year it was made.

My advice would be to get some tape packs. The newer the better, as you have a range of dj's and styles. Only thing that bugs me sometimes about them is the mc's (sorry to say). I dont hold hardcore mc's to highly, they always shout over the drop..makes me angry!!! anyone else think so?
Drugs may be the road to nowhere, but at least they're the scenic route. . .

Nah, I quite like them! Well, I like the older tapes when the MC don't say as much as these days - just add a few things here and there. I LOVE scratching as well and I wish more DJs would do it.
But the tape-pack is a good idea if you want to get a good idea on whats happening accross the whole scene.

Scratching is amazing, i think the one of the best sets for scratching was the new years eve at slammin in 2000, dj's Sy and Unknown. It is fookin awsome, Sy has got the skillz on the decks...and always will:D

Forgive me for being such a n00b, but the mention of tape packs piqued my interest. I've two questions about tape packs
First of all, where is the best place to find and order good, well-done tape packs? Will a simple Google search suffice, or do I need some inside information? Secondly, how high-quality is the audio in the tape packs? I'm guessing it's just an audio rip directly from the mixer at a given club?
Thanks so much for your help!

as far as I know, all tape packs are previously DAT recorded so the sound quality is pretty much the best you can get.
