I suppose it has to be that way if you're intending to make it as a swimmer (or indeed a serious athlete of any kind).
If it was just a leisure thing, surely it would be a lot less intensive?

stick at it man.
i stopped swimming for the exact same reason about 4-5 years ago, and it was only in the past couple of years I realised I'd made a huge mistake. Not only does it help on your way to becoming an athlete but in terms of college/university it helps for admissions and grants.
Just remember, wen ur receiving ur olympic gold medal, ditch the national anthem and make them play toytown!

if you stick with it will show maturity and dedication. it's a really good way to prepare yourself for college as far as time management. plus looks pretty good on a resume
I was in orchestra, camerata (elite orchestra =P) and 2 jazz bands when I was in high school. not to mention playing soccer & being in the japanese club. sure it took away from social functions but looking back on it, it was worth it.

gee thanks. I still am though, just changed my haircut and facial hair =P
it was nice though because we would get money for playing events, plus we got to travel quiet a bit.
