Afaik, Bonkers was around before Raver Baby - Without React, Hixxy and Sharkey we wouldn't have bonkers. We'd be missing a few good tunes (Notably wanting to get high) but otherwise i don't think hardcore would crash and burn without Raver Baby...you seem to be forgetting that every other label doesn't orbit around Raver Baby, infact Evolution is the longest running hardcore label, Next Generation/Blatant Beats are also massive, aswell as the Nu Energy Collective, and Raver Baby aint even played out as much because they're so slack on releases.

Theres something like 70 to 80 hardcore labels in the UK non worse than raverbaby.

Firstly Raver Baby started in 2001.

Second without Raver Baby I don't think hardcore would be as big as it is today, like Raver Baby or not you have to respect Hixxy for what he has done for hardcore music as a whole. Alot of people don't like raverbaby that's fine, don't buy it and buy something else, but as a produced product raver baby quaility is very high both pressing and actual audio... not to mention they sell alot of units.

I have also seen alot of people bagging raver baby for no particular reason and then playing the tunes in their sets... perhaps it's cool to bag raver baby?

You might not agree with me but for myself I love the tunes on Raver Baby and Bonkers is always rockin....

I'm sick of people putting RB down. FFS, if you don't like the music, don't listen to it. There's no need to slander the label and the producers that release on it on a public forum. Personally I think Raverbaby is a class label and Hixxy knows how to spot talent. I see Raverbaby taking a lot of stick on forums like this and there is no need for it.

The fact that there ARE albums, and that hardcore is actually in a near-healthy state is almost entirely down to Raverbaby. Hixxy practically kickstarted hardcore again, from a practical coma.

Whether or not the music is to your taste is somewhat irrelevant, it has and does act as a gateway into the scene. A lof of people I know of have got INTO hardcore through Raverbaby ( or via HTID / Sundissential ) and now are listening to other hardcore and freeform. It IS a gateway, and the importance of that cannot be understated.

I PERSONALLY have had some issues w/ the near monopoly on compilation CDs, and think that any kind of absolute stranglehold is non-productive for all. HOWEVER I'm more than confident that Hixxy et al realise this as well, and am aware of potential resolutions that should become evident as 2k5 looms.

The contribution that Hixxy has made to hardcore this century is beyond any doubt at all. Raverbaby, Bonkers, HTID... need I continue?

Doesn't quite live up to his oft-percieved image tho, he's actually pretty goddam down-to-earth and reasonable.. when calm ;)

Funny, I'm probably the youngest on these forums and I'm not a Raver Baby fan. Tracks like Heartbeatz and You're Shining appeal the first few times but then they're played OVER AND OVER AND OVER... It gets beyond monotonous. I prefer Quosh, Blatant Beats and Evolution... :p Hixxy's tunes are all right but I don't love them as much as I used to. "Wanting to Get High" and "Takin' Over Me" will always be in my heart though.

However, Bonkers is a godsend, I respect Raver Baby for that. UFO made some great tunes, I love Electric by Breeze & Styles, and Jelly Baby's a pretty good label. So, hardcore wouldn't exactly be dead/nowhere if it weren't for Raver Baby, but it definitely wouldn't be as successful without Bonkers and such.

Raver Baby is the way forward but i cant picture the scene without the RB style. So what most of you are saying that you will most likely dance/rave with the old 1997/8 style. Some how i cant picture the 2004 fans dancing to Shooting Stars the 2004 Remix. This is where the scene went wrong. producers would make 20 songs but with the same backgound on them all. Now there is many styles out there like Sy, Scott Brown, Hixxy, Dougal and so on. In 1997 all the DJs plays the same DJ set with more or less the same tracks but in different order but Hixxy has got the scene where it is today. Do you think Bonkers would be as big as it is without hixxy becouse i cant. You may say that Sy could have done a better job but look at Original Hardcore, MOS has stop it. What does that tell you? Bad sales. Now look the the Bonkers sales. Bonkers 14 is out noxt year. React is taking over Hardcore Heaven albums. What does that tell you? Sales are on the up.

are you saying this doesn't happen today?

i think this is much more frequent now, and most big dj's will only play tunes from their own label.

Very true. I have friends who caught onto hardcore through a B&S tune, but now they've ventured off into Freeform and the bouncier stuff as well.

That really gets my back up, i know they want to promote their own work but it's getting to the point were they only play tunes from their own label, Scott Brown, Hixxy, Breeze & Styles, Sy & Unknown ect, the list goes on.
Call me old-fashioned, but i prefered it when they mixed it up a bit.

Hardcore was alive along time before both Raverbaby & illegal downloads.

I'm sorry but you must be mental. Raverbaby with their 3 releases a year keeping the scene alive? I admit that Hixxy does work hard for the scene but the record label is a massive let down. Evolution Records would be keeping the scene alive more then raverbaby if that is how you want to look at things. Come back when you have a valid point.

If you liked this post why not get up and do a dance in honour of it.

It'd definitely popular stuff with the ravers cos whenever hixxy or breeze and styles come on you see the floor pack and everyone dancin, more than any other dj's at the events down here. I dont really like much of it as in play it in my sets but goes down a treat at raves so they must be doing something right.

Venga familia!!!
