I think some of it is. But I have been listening to HH since 95 onwards when I use to play to Sonic the Hedghog to it. But these days it seems to samey. A lot of tunes between 95 and 2000ish were very varied. These days it sounds too much a like, track after track.

I still love hardcore but most of it is from back then.

Bonkers 3 is my all time favourite Bonkers. Because it was very varied. I feel that the Bonkers series is not like that now as well as other well known CD sets. I get the impression that 95 till 98-99 was a lot of peoples favourite time for HH and I think it was due to it being bouncy and mad. A mate of mine said HH has "grown up".....but is that really a good thing? Am not to sure.

Yet another one of these

Dude, its all hardcore.

I say that hardcore nowadays is more varied. Like the Bonkers discs - 1 for Hixxy, 1 for sharkey and 1 for scotty and recently 1 more for a guest. Completely different styles.

You dont get much more varied than that. Wasn't 98-99 when the scene started dying? When it got too cheesy for its own good?

Like you I loved the early stuff, but I'm a person that listens to hardcore becuase of the way it makes me feel.

I think its a good thing, if you keep on making old school tracks, they get bland and boring and repetitive. Music needs to change, and hardcore changes quite rapidly.

If it's happy stuff youre after jus keep lookin for more old stuff i always find the odd one i've not heard before and i've been listenin to it for years. Spain and italy have a lot of classic happy style stuff many that didnt get played much over here.

We've been making Hardcore, amongst other things, since the early 90s & are working on
some new Hardcore/HappyHardcore at the moment.
The first of these will be a free give-away on this site soon.

It's different, it's evolved, just like everything else, but it's still Hardcore.

The second one is definitely Happy As Larry Hardcore & we'll post that, when it's finished.
If that one doesn't put a smile on your face......you're probably dead.
Cheers

The Ionosphere Crew.

Between the Earth and the Stars.

I think HH has "grown up" a bit, but that only leads to more variety. in the us, I hear "uk hardcore" get used to "label" the newer stuf that's coming out. when you say "happy hardcore" people think of tunes from 99 and back. when it pretty much was all happy.

I also kind of noticed this when I was criticised for mixing "happy songs" with "not happy songs" on my demo mix. I think I mixed "all about you" into mpt #1 (an anonymous japanese track.) so for my new mix I'm working on I'm trying to start with happy tracks and end with the not so happy ones. turns out I only have like 3 happy tracks! 0.o

craziness.

pffft

hardcore is just as varied as it was back in '94. however, if you are only listening to certain djs over and over, of course it's going to sound the same.

I still love to play my records from back then, mainly because no one around here that is going to parties now ever heard it. but like rygor said, if it doesn't change people get bored and leave; hence what happened in '99-'00.

listen to Kevin Energy. then listen to Re-Con. then listen to Gammer. and Luna C. and VAGABOND. and Oli G. and then if youre not happy with that variety, go listen to Omar Santana.

its definitely not the same sort of sound. . .

today is more uplifting, whereas before it was bouncy/crazy/mental happiness..

trancey riffs just arent bouncy enough!

fade's stuff from mid 2003 (and various co-productions he did) was mad i wish the music went more in that direction...

anyway, i still like the new stuff, i just wouldnt call it happy hardcore. . . uplifting hardcore is a better name cos its more like trance on steroids these days
