It seems that the whole hardcore genre is changing, from the originally happy tracks of the mid 90s to a more serious, heavy, trance- inducing(not cheese...) experience. Lyrics now come from movies and are not happy at all, talking about god and death, unlike the songs from old about love and peace. The beats are heavier..darker. Does anyone else see(hear) this? Oh yeah...all this change isnt bad. not bad at all.

It is bad to an extent, i don't think we should ever lose happy vocals.

Like everything else it's cyclical.

Love & Peace sounds good but from most people it's just empty words.......pie in the sky.

God & Death is real enough and those that are bothered by it need to take a good look at THEMSELVES.

It's still Happy Hardcore.

evidently you weren't listening to hardcore in '93 =P

personally, I really don't miss the singy songy stuff...mainly because I love samples

there are some people still puting out cheese, there's just not as much as there was in '97.

**Needs Cheese**

I miss and love those cheesey uplifting tunes from days gone by...I really, REALLY do!

All this new hardcore, in my opinion is 'alright', There are a lot of great tunes still coming out though....but they aren't even close to verging on the happiness of the earlier tunes. (imo).

Although, they say that change is necessary for things to grow. I have accepted this unfortunate fact....and in my revenge...am gathering as much of the old stuff as possible!!

I wont let it go....no, Never!! NO!!

Don't worry we'll get some cheese back. It'll come back. This new stuff is good too.

Yeah I really wish there was some more uber-happy cheese around. I can turn on happyhardcore.com radio and at least 80% of the time it will be some rather stale trancey stuff or, just otherwise dull type. Now I liked most that is there now initially but its a case of too much of a certain type to make me want to listen all the time. I have got a bit bored of it really. and I end up missing the mixes/tracks I really like because I have to go listen to some cd or some mix to get my fix for other types of hardcore.

There is some good stuff on there at the mo, I liked Wonter's mix 3, and The fourths mix 2. MrJakk mixes are usually alright too but not as enthralled with them now. I think overall though theres not nearly enough variation on there.

I don't buy vinyl though so I don't have a clue about releases on that front, nor can I find many hardcore nights to attend that are convenient but I'm just kinda getting bored of the radio on this site at the very least. I find from other sources some really good quality mixes that I listen to pretty much the majority of the time now because they are all awesome and varied. With a nice balance of happy, dark, bouncy, tracey, etc. spread out.

Is there a scene for the old stuff?
Cos i collect old tunes as well as new and personally would prefer to play old stuff because thats what i like best, but would it be accepted by promoters/crowds?
Just it seems that people only like the new stuff to get played out.
