Do you think that if DJ's use a computer to get the BPM's of their songs (vinyl or CDs) and then print a sheet with all the tunes along with the BPM's and use it when mixing is cheating???

no i dont think its cheating. some djs write down the bpm on all their vinyl.
i dont personally do any of that but i think u can if u want just to memorize.

As long as your ears are already trained then I think it's fine, allows the DJ to do a lot more things like scratching or whatever instead of wasting time pitching it properly, Sy is one that I know writes the bpm on his vinyls

as long as they aren't using the computer to beatmatch I see nothing wrong with it.
I know a couple house djs that write the bpm down just for quick reference as they have thousands of records

just to clarify they would they right odwn that bpm when the pitch is zero? if so i dont see it would help all that much

yea, i completely agree here. as far as i'm concerned, its up to the dj to make one tune fit in properly with the next, if that dj uses something to help him to achieve that, there is nothing wrong with that. as i say, at the end of the day, if the dj, himself, pulls a tune into the correct timing by his own accord, there is nothing wrong with him gettin help to do so.

i dnt see a thing wrong with using beatmatches either..............theres no rule to state otherwise in 10 years time i bet tht mst equipment will have automatic bpm match.
thing is it gives more room to do other things and make the listening experience better.
i doubt the crowd would go 'oh im not too keen on jo bloggs because he uses a beatcounter so hes not a true dj'yea rite

most CDJ's tell you the bpm's anyway
printing the bpm's seem a bit "newbish"

i think its a bad idea for beginners.. i did something similar where i wrote down the speeds. it meant i wasnt getting my ear in. now i avoid using anything like that

I agree, my mixer has a beat counter but i used it as i started out and realised i couldnt use it without, ive stuck blue tak over it now, as i think it sort of defeats the object :)

I decided to pint BPMs as I was finding it really hard to try and get my ears in tune with the music, but this still didn't help me. So I gave up for a while, now my ears are nearly there and the BPM sheet helps me a little when I can't seem to get the two records equal.
I have also found out that the sheet helps me at work (I'm a Light Jock in my local night club) when I get a chance to be a DJ for a hr, as I get so nervous, I know I got a little bit of help with the paper, I might get the records matched, but I still find it a bit hard to get the timing of one record finishing and the other starting it's brake.

I did have to work with a DJ that got payed a lot of money (well £200 for one night) and he did use a computer program to match all of the songs for his main hour.
Now I do know that is cheating as he wasn't doing any of the work to match the songs, so the only thing he had to do was choose the next track

on technics i find raver baby mixin into an evo will need to be about +2% etc. Kinda just learn as u go along

if you were in the crowd and the dj was above you playing music, it wouldn't matter if he or she were to be doing that stuff, as you couldn't see him. if the music sounds good i don't see why it would matter. but from a dj standpoint, i have yet to find a bpm counter that worked, and i don't have the attention span to sit and count beats on every record and song i own as alot of the records have up to five songs on them each. that makes for alot of songs to track. if it fits and mixes, it fits. if it doesn't, it doesn't fit. dj'ing is hard enough to do without limiting your sets with songs that are the same speed over songs that go well with the energy of the night.
