Do you remember the name of the virus? Anyway F-Secure has a huge database of virus' and how to get rid of them. Did a quick search on it, is it this one?

I have recieved that from 2 people on MSN, lots of times with one person, but it is not the person who's on MSN that is sending it, it's the virus (just incase you didn't know), i fortunately never saved the file onto my computer though.

go there it's a free online virus scan, it scans thru the browser so allow the active X control and everything. Disable all virus scanners you have as they may prohibit access to the virus and let trendmicro do the rest. Goto trendmicro.com if you want more assurance that this is an official virus scanning company blah blah and a very good one at that. =]

i would suggest getting 'Hi-Jack This' and posting you log results on a specialist forum, thats what i did

and when you go to get rid of it, make sure you diable system restore then boot up in safe mode so it can't restore your computer after you turn it off

stinger is a good piece of kit but it is only for specialised viruses though

EDIT: learn to recognise if it is a genuine link or not that you friend has sent, i have had a few lately from mates that i could tell it wasn't them because it was really formal and perfect grammar not lyk dis. one had one where they tried to actually send you the virus via msn and would try sending you it every minute or so, i suppose the best form of protection is awareness and experience, of course a decent anti-virus also helps, especially seeing as i have about 4-5

I also recommend the hijack this route. Try moo-soft.com and get the cleaner which specializes in Trojan virus's. Nothing like a good firewall too, for a personal one try "tiny personal firewall", very nice one. Don't trust the windows firewall for it is basically a joke.

I had this. The easiest way too get rid of it (although it doesn't always work but did for me) is to un-install msn messenger and delete the MSN folder on your hard drive. I did that and it was gone. I did virus scans etc and it didnt' pick it up. I don't know why but a lot of them don't see it.

The virus is called 'Project 1'.

These are 2 link I looked at to get info but they maye have changed since I last looked.

Try using NOD32 antivirus.

I've never had it miss a virus. Norton, PC-Cillin and McAffee have let me down plenty of times though.

Seriously, give it a go, you'll be impressed with both the scanning time, the (lack of) load on the CPU and coolness of the interface.
