I don't know why, but I've been thinking, sorry, worrying a lot about breakbeat hardcore recently. I personally feel that it's being overlooked and that it's lost in the shadow of it's 4/4 big brother and I think that's a little unfair.

There are a lot of amazing breakbeat tunes being produced that most people will never hear because DJ's don't tend to play breakbeat sets anymore. Of course some DJ's open their set with breakbeat before moving onto 4/4 and that's it. Why can't they jump between the 2 during the set as well?

Is that all breakbeat is good for? opening sets? With the exception of Ham & Robbie Long's 'Breakbeat experience' set at Uproar a few months back and a couple of dedicated events what sort of exposure has it received? To the majority of people breakbeat hardcore doesn't even exist.

Vicious circle I suppose.

Back in the early 90's it used to be breakbeat almost through and through and a lot of the newer bb stuff actually manages to capture some of that vibe. Check out www.breakbeathardcore.com and have a listen yourself. The beauty with the bb stuff is that you can be so diverse and create a multitude of different styles - it's so open.

I just wish that more and more artists would support it so that it can gain a bit of recognition.

I hope that one day it will become strong enough so that it can warrant dedicated sets, or at least get included in regular sets more, and not just to open them.

I fear it's going to die a death and no-one will care.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Oh, and major props to all the artists that have supported bbhc.

Hujimafuja, I'm going to be working up the breakbeaty vibe. So if I have anything to do with it, I'll push it as much as I can.

What I do eventually want to to is bridge that gap between DnB and hardcore, which is breaks.

The Virus & Milo set is a perfect example of how th 2 genres can be intertwined and mashed together in perfect harmoney.

Personally, I think that breakbeat hardcore is more artist album ready. I'm talking the artist albums that are diverse, not like (I'm sorry to say) Scotty's Hardwired. Thats not to say there weren't choons. Dude, its Scott Brown, of course its good, but in terms of an album being an experience, I think it lacked.

old school breakbeat

nu skool breakbeat

two small examples

its a big breakbeat filled world out there, i would definatly reccomend getting all the "Just 4 U Hardcore Happieness" albums (There are three of them) for some classic old skool breakbeat goodness, then for the more new skool stuff i would check out Luna C - SupaSet part 3

which has a mixture of old and new :)
