Following on from djletto's post about Cobalt & Heffer really being Dougal and Gammer, can anyone answer me this: WHY do some artists (esp. Scott Brown & Breeze and Styles) feel the need to put their work out under different names? If they used different aliases for different styles then fair play but they're not so WHY?

Hmmm...maybe the aliases play on the subtleties of the music...for example songs by Plus System are generally more dancey than songs by Scott Brown...and that enables Scott Brown to do remixes of Scott Brown songs as Plus System...I can't really explain InterState. I don't understand why Breeze & Styles created Futureworld, Sonic State, and Bo & Luke though. It seems that Sonic State tends to be with MC Storm, but what about Dark Like Vader?

I like aliases because you should be buying the record for liking the tune, not who produced it.

This is the main reason why. You see Scott Brown you have an expectation of the music. You see Plus System you have an exceptation. "Buy the music for the music not for the maker." - Luna C. This is why Luna C has about 20 different names.

I think some 1's already said this ,sorry!!! But i think its for wen the artist makes a blatant rip off without the permission of the ownerrs of the song. With doing this their names arnt slaped all over the record, making it easy for the original writers to sue.

It's also a good way to get more records released - the different names mean you don't get sick of seeing the same names all the time (even though you know who it is anyway).

Arguably one of the best

I think that alot of confusion would be saved if hardcore didn't use aliases to be honest

I have a load of aliases because if I made a D'n'B tune as Cru-l-t, lots of D'n'B people wont buy it because "Cru-l-t" is a hardcore Dj, and lots of hardcore people will be annoyed when they got a d'n'b tune instead of what they expected.
An alias doesn't protect you legally if you rip something off. It does make you a little harder to find, and some artists dont like to be associated with rip offs, but quite like the cash so it keeps them....I was going to put safe, but I dont know any more, lol.
Many hardcore artists can work very fast - making a tune in a day isnt such a rare thing. For me it has taken longer to make tunes the longer I have been in the scene because I spend more time on them. but if I made 2 tunes a week, and released a record every week, always under the same name, people would start to think "he just churns out the choons" and lets face it, that would soon reflect badly on the artist.
Its a little unfair, in fact - many artists outside of hardcore work really fast too, but because they are on a bigger scale and working with a major label, its not possible to put out more than once a year. Leonardo DaVinci would paint every day, often finishing on the same day, and Syephen King argued with his publishers because he wanted to release 2 books a year, and they said it would be too much and to use an alias...'course, they were wrong lol....
