I had a purple patch last month when i was finding it realy easy to mix every time i mixed but now i cant put 2 tracks to together.

I've been mixin 3 years now and always had good and bad form from day to day but i've not mixed well for about 2 weeks, its its gettin on my nervs now.

I dunno if im tired or not focused enough or what.

Does anybody els seem to have form when they mix? Any body know a way of getting form back?? or is it all just in my head??

It happens to the best of us, happened to me over x-mass just gone, it was hell.

What I say is just relax and try and enjoy your mixing rather than trying to force the mix's. Just take a break, go on the decks when you feel like it, not when you feel you have to.

i fu*kin hate it with a passion when this happens, makes me feel like absolute shite till i bang a decent mix out which can sometimes be a good few days.

what i do is try and completly forget about my mixing becoming shit and like mortis says, chill out and enjoy the choons. dont go for complicated stuff, just try simple mixing build your confidence back up. i normally try to mix with my newer choons aswell. from my experience, i can be shit for 4 days on the trot, have a go on the 5th and be right back on form.

maybe havin a few cans and gettin ur mates round might help. i always mix better when there is ppl listening to what im doing.

but most of all, yea, most of all. just kiddin, just stick with it mate, it will come back soon an ull be rockin

What helps me is getting new recs. Sometimes I just get hung up on the same records, and new ones really help :D

that happens to me if I'm stressed out

just drink a bit, relax... listen to a mellow mix cd

then get on the decks:
mix your two tracks that are the most easy to mix (ie take two records that are the exact same speed so you don't have any beatmatching to do + tracks that mix well together) and do that mix
since it's a super easy mix you'll likely do it fine and then you'll be confident and your mixing should be back
just progress to tricks and harder mixes slowly

after that session you should be good to go :)
I've had to do it once before when I was really stressed before some exams a while ago - worked for me...

could be you're trying too hard, just relax...take a step back, now take a step forward, now take a step back, and now we're cha chaing =P

if you're not having fun you're definetly doing something wrong. have a drink or two and enjoy the tunage...I mean most super star djs are actually crap if you listen to them mix, they just play tunes that everyone enjoys =P

do you record your mixes as well? I found this one of the best ways to improve my mixing when I started out.

think it happens to everyone. i found that if i mix when i dont want to i usually fuk up a lil.

what i recommend is listen to music on your headphones before you mix that helps a lot because its like practacing.

I just dont seem to be feelin the music at the moment, boys are round tonight tho, gona have a few spliffs and see what happens.

I aint had a mix for a few days so im gona chill out and try not to think about it too much.

The record stores round hudds are embarrasing as fek so i use the net to buy vinyl, Other than IMO/Shop.Happyhardcore where's good to buy vinyl?
I tend to play the more bouncy side of hardcore like seduction, sy n unknown and some scott brown stuff but have most of what i want from IMO/Shop.Happyhardcore. I can find plenty of freeform and some more obscure music but not much of the bouncy stuff. Do any of the smaller labels cater for it?

Yeh i get that from time to time, its defo all about new records, if you feel your bored with a set of tunes, mixing them can seem pointless and boring.
Ive recently discovered the shop on the Nu Energy website, thats got some class tunage.
Have you ever tried mixing other styles of dance music? To keep my mixing fresh i tend to incorperate ways of mixing from other genres so each mix sounds different. Hardcore mixes completly different to Drum n Bass for example.

Mixed dnb and hard house, just settled on this i suppose cant realy afford to buy other music.

I worked out some of my problems tho, my headphones broke a while ago and i started usin my girlfriends walkman earphones, suprisin but they were pritty good but i broke one of them and she took em off me, was usin some shitty Wharfdale head's but our lass let me use her walkman ones for today and they were so much clearer.

Think i need some new headphones but im so skint. I saw some numark hf125's for about forty quid anybody know if there worth it?

go try a pair of headphones on before you buy them...make sure they are comfy on your ears and are loud enough.

I tend to go with sennheiser or sony headphones, I have found technic dj1200/10 headphones to be very comfy as well.

I use Sony MDR V700DJ, theyve lasted me a few years so far, and theyve been battered at a ridiculous level! Comfy n still crystal clear, i think you can pick them up for around £70 these days.
