I'm talking in terms of a digital label with (almost) instant downloads once you've paid for it.
How much would you pay for a track?
Whats the most? Whats a bargain?
I think thats $2USD is a flippin bargain per track.
I'm willing to charge pay that.

$2 USD isn't bad for a track, anything more is too much. I've been on sites that charge about $5 and I think that's ridiculous for 1 track, I might as well buy a CD.

Average CD album (i think) has about 14 tracks and costs 16,99-20,00€. So it makes about 1,21-1,43€/track (1,94-2,29AUD). That should be the amount for the digital format IMHO.
Many digital stores ask more money of the digital format then the actual CD would cost, witch is just wrong. Because eventhough you might not buy all of the tunes from the CD, you dont get the CD or the CD quality. So my point is, ask the same price as one track would cost on a CD. The advantage of digital format should be that you only pay for the tracks you want.

Of course.
Its just $2US makes more sense to a lot of people over $2AU (and its a touch more )
No doubt I want more opinions.

yes but then bonkers 14 over here was £15 whilst another single CD might cost like £12-14 so the latter prices would be almost 4 times the price of the others that is why there will never be a set price for anything, same as buying products in bulk, the more you get, the cheaper you get them in this case, you buy more CD's for a slightly greater price

I didnt count it by compilations, because in compilations regardless the amount of tracks, its the same % from the price that the artists get (the more tracks, the less the artist get). But on albums and singles there are certain "standards" for the price. And an mp3 is more like buying a "single" then an compilation. But you are right, on compilations you get much more "for the price", but its rather rare to see an compilation with 4 CD's full of unmixed tracks. At least i havent seen any.

I don't download much (and probably never will), but $2 would be very reasonable indeed imo.
$3 would be the absolute maximum i'd pay for a track i really like.
Being old fashioned, i still have this thing about physically owning my music so i'd always want to pay less for downloads than the 'real thing'.

Arguably one of the best

Im with DMS I have to have the music in vinyl/cd format if possible and dont really download though $2 is very reasonable. Personally I think music is sold far to cheep and the prices should be jacked up for the artist benifit (no one elses!) you wouldnt see paintings being sold for $2 a piece.

so like Volatile Digital Audio?
I believe if something is released indy then it should allow for the prices to be a bit higher, esp if the quality is.
I see no problem in paying 2-4US for hot new track
