Impish’s morecore ‘top picks’ selection
Well – it’s about time something like this was done!
For you that don’t know me, I’m Ben – AKA Impish, a DJ and forum regular on morecore.net and other hardcore forums. I have decided to share with you some reviews and ‘top tips’ from the mixes on morecore.
Basically, these are my favourite picks from the mixes currently available on morecore.net. All are online and ready for downloading so go check them out!
I’m starting off with ’wheelleg - history of hardcore 1998 v2’
http://www.morecore.net/include.php?path=content/download.php&contentid=516] Uploaded on the 3rd of this month, I’ve had this downloaded for about a week. I think this is a great little mix, filled with all the great tracks from ’98. I mean, lets face facts, with tracks like ‘Bang : shooting star (brisk & ham mix)’ (track 5) and ‘Dj kaos : electric dreams’ (Track 8) – not forgetting ‘2 without heads : you and me (marc smith) (track 16)’ – how could I, Mr Cheese himself, not like it. Right from the off you know your in business – straight into a track that I infact have never heard of until this mix. Lots of tight mixing and quality tracks makes this standout from the crowd. Piano’s are rife in this mix – always a good thing, none of the waving dink dink dink piano crap, but proper hardcore pianos like they used to be! :D I’m not going to rate this mix 1 to 10 or anything because all the mixes I review in this are worthwhile downloading – obviously they’re all 10’s ;) So here’s the track info: Size = 50.2 MB – Encoded at 112kb/s MP3 - Current download rate is 158. Wheelleg is another forum regular so pop into morecore and say hello to us all! The next mix I have chosen is ‘ultravibes dj-team - welcome to the nuskool #9’ http://www.morecore.net/include.php?path=content/download.php&contentid=531 This was uploaded on the 15th of this month and has become an instant hit, taking over 360 downloads in 5 days! This is an upfront slice of quality tracks, very bouncy and very Scott Brown sounding. ‘System - Make You Freak’ (track 1) is one of my favourite tracks from this mix, the beats sound solid and bouncy but has a hard edge to it (if you get my meaning). Track two is, by far – very far, the best track on this mix. ‘Ultravibes - **** The Beatz (Original Mix)’ just sounds awesome! From the comments left on this mix, I’m not alone thinking this – hardcoremaniac, addictive_vinyl and midje have all shown interest in this track and big’ed it up in a big way! Well-done Mr Ultravibes on a quality track! Oh, and for getting a track on Bonkers 14 too ;) But anyway – back to the mix. This mix just keeps getting better and better, up next is Darwin – Take a ride on RFU records. I’ve still not bough this yet, keep meaning to. It’s another quality track – one the Darwin and CDJay has done us all proud with this release. I can’t knock this mix at all, its flawless – track selection, mixing and it keeps that upbeat sound to it, just makes ya’ wanna dance! Here’s the track info: Size = 57.3 MB – Encoded at 128kb/s MP3 - Current download rate is 361. The third mix I’m going to review is one of my own mixes. Well, I can guess what your thinking, he’s doing the reviews so he can but his own mixes in so he gets more attention. Well, your right. I mean wrong….erm…. Haha! Well, there’s going to be a few mixes of mine I’m going to bring your attention to but only because I actually think they’re worthy of your attention not because they’re mixes I’ve done. The one I’ve chosen today is ‘impish - the cheese files v7’. http://www.morecore.net/include.php?path=content/download.php&contentid=353 This is the seventh mix of the cheese files collective (currently up to 10, all available on morecore, plug plug ;)). This is one of my favourite ones, it was pretty up front at the time of mixing but now it’s alittle old but still has some sparkle to it. One of the key reasons I like this mix is its one of the first mixes I’ve done that includes Japanese hardcore in them, five infact. ‘Storm & Euphony - Heaven Knows’ is one of the tracks that make this mix in my opinion. Its one of those tracks that seems to cater for a variety of musical tastes, it’s hard yet…cheesy but not over the top. Keeps that happy vibe on a harder edge. Another of my favourite tracks is MPT - MPT Volume 2, a white label track I picked up from IMOrecords. This is a favourite because it sounds well, fun! Just pure fun and happiness :D plus its Japanese! Not to be eclipsed by MPT, ‘Buzzmasta - Music Be Alright’ is equally as happy. Just wait for the breakdown at 29:33 – my my my, what a piano sequence! I just love it! Taking in some of the remixes of hardcore classics, this mix just has everything that I look for in a mix. But please, excuse the dodgy scratching! :D Here’s the track info: Size = 57.7 MB – Encoded at 112kb/s MP3 - Current download rate is 243 I’ll pick another mix of mine to review next time. The next mix I’ve chosen is Scorch - Scrachin Can Be Catchin. http://www.morecore.net/include.php?path=content/download.php&contentid=271 This is defiantly another top pick, uploaded 24th of December last year, its filled with quality tracks and amazing scratch techniques. It has amaased a hefty download count too – 536 so far!! The majority of the tracks were pretty upfront at the time of mixing this – ‘DJ Stompy - Destroy the melody’, ‘Adam H - Heavens Above (Hixxy Rmx)’ and ‘Scott Brown & Cat Knight - All about you’ stand out in this mix. ‘Dougal – Don’t cry’ is just a top track anyway but with added scratching, it sounds even better Another tightly mixed, well put together mix. Well done! Well, that’s it for now – I’m sure I’ll be adding more top picks at some point – there’s loads to choose from on morecore.net right now! Be sure to drop into the forum and say hi to us all, feel free to join in with the topics going on there! Until next time, keep it hardcore!
