ok been in this situation a long time and time to make a decision.

basically the problem is this. i like to spin hardcore from 180-190. i really like to spin on vinyl but the problem is that some records just cant go that fast. i really dont like to buy mp3's cause it loses the whole fun of djing for me. sure mp3s are cool and i dont mind mixing in a few mp3s but i wouldnt want to be a mp3 only dj!

i thought i could just pitch up my techs and that would be the end of that but its not that simple. if i go to a club they deff wont have pitched up techs and they prolly wont let me mess with theirs! and i def wouldnt want to have my set be all pitched down either.

so what am i suppose to do? are my only options?: be cd only, carry my techs if i gig anywhere, or just dont play fast.

there is no other feeling then getting new vinyl all the time and its just not the same with mp3s. it kinda makes it lose its soul if u know what i mean. just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as me.....

looks like im gonna have to carry my techs everywhere i play nooooooo

you could start your set out a little slower and advace in speed to give yourself some more headroom. problem with playing super fast, is that if you are playing with other dj's, it could confuse the dancefloor. this may sound kinda lame, but you are playing songs for other people not really for you to hear.

not a b2b so to say, but if you want a seamless mix from the prior dj's set into your set then you may have to start your set slower, then pitch up over time, but if you don't care for a seamless mix, then just have an intro and tear it up from there. unfortunatly you'll have to play records in the same tempo.

oh i would never want to do a seamless mix. i would def bust and intro and go from there. but why would i have to play it at the same tempo as the guy before me?

the easiest solution would be just to slow down your sets. you can get more people into a set if you don't start out at 180.

but then again, you may have more fans of faster music out there than mainly just junglists here =P

i find that sometimes when playin a faster tempo i cant mix a choon in so i just slow the choon im mixin out of down to the required speed.

you could do this then speed the next choon you mix in up a bit when the mix is finished.

Its sometimes changes the mood (normally in a bad way) when a fast set ends and the next dj starts off slow, sometimes is phat tho, depends on whos up next. Breeze n Styles seem to play slow no matter what but it doesnt matter cuz its always a good set.

You guys may not have any problems with your ultra super duper pitch decks, but you'll never see those types of decks at a rave or club. His delima is not if he could use 50% pitch, its that his sets may be too fast for decks at a rave or club.

icex, the only advice i can give other than what i posted before, is either adapt your style to which equipment is available to you, or spin happy gabber which has tempos that go up into 220bpm and up. Untill you are a high profile dj, the club or event won't begin to cater to your needs as a dj, so you may want to bring cd's if you are going to play in a venue that has cd decks, or you may have to pass up the event. There aren't really alot of options open when you use pitch controls that are inside of the turntable that most other people may not know that was there to start with.

good luck though, i'm sure your situation will improve, just keep plugging away.
