I taught myself how to mix records, and never used books or videos.
also, beat matching is part of it, you have to learn track selection, set building and how to use a mixer so you don't blow your amp up or make your mixes sound like it was recorded through an overdrive guitar pedal.
other than all that it's a snap, you'll become a superstar in no time.
