and i do think it is something to be proud of . we stick up for each other and take a lot of shit when all we r tryin 2 do is have a laugh. its every1 else with the problem ..

yeah we stick up for r m8s no matter wot, if 1 is gettin beat up by like 10 kids then i will go and help him, even if it is just 2 of us i wont never let 1 of my mates get beat up

Chavs cause problems for people by acting like idiots and being antisocial, I have a laugh with my mates but that is not at the expense of others. Chavs terrorise people, if they kept themselves to themselves (like every other social group) people would not have a problem with them. Chavs are scum and they are what is wrong with this country.

i generally do hate chavs but i know i shouldn't but there is just to high a percentage of them are that total tools. my brother is a chav (from his education you wouldn't guess though GCSE: 5A*'s, 4A's and a B, A-levels: 2A's, 1B and 1C now on a product design on computers or something or other at liverpool uni) and pretty much all his mates are and a few of my old school mates are and most of them are fine, it is just the arseholes that think they're cool from trying to intimidate random people.
one of my old primary school friends seemed to have turned into one and decided he would show off to his skanky girlfriend by calling me a fat shit (has a point but still) and i was in a really sour mood so i went back and gave him the option to take it back before i showed him up infront of his girlfriend, shame he didn't decide upon the latter and actually apologised

i agree with u lauren. people have a stereotypical view of chavs and they dont sway from it! fair enough there are the people who walk round with carpets under their arms thinkin they are rocky (when they are 5 stone wet thru) but the vast majority that i know are spot on and would do anythin for ya. i suppose its all down to how you were brought up and who you knocked about with, but ive got my opinion and im stickin with it

my apologies for intruding on what looks like a purely UK thread but what EXACTLY is a chav? Is it a derogatary term for people? or has the term sort of evolved to describe a culture now (akin to goths/punks). If its the latter, what ideas do chavs uphold? From the looks of it there are two differing opinions on what chavs are and I'm actually curious for once.

Having asked a few close friends on this subject, I am right in what I originally said and that Chav is derogitry term and was originally used to offend people who dress like a football hooligan. Chavs being chavs didn't have enough brain cells between them to come us with their own social circle title so adopted Chav (it's in their nature to steal though so no change there......)

in two thousand four, it was HARDCORE
originated as football hooliganism from 70's, boomed as of late, around this area (north-west) they listen to mainly commericial cheese music such as clubland and crappy booty shaking rap music
they dress a certain way, sportswear clothes mainly and a baseball cap that is far to high and most likely will be some crappy fake burberry knock-off. trackie bottoms usually tucked into socks with either running shoes or rockports. top either again a sport top or some other chavvy make as it were like fred perry, timberland, teddy smith etc often stripped
speak slang with a dodgy crappy accent and generally have low intelligence and tend when spoken to on internet '2 typ like dis cos it iz realy cool n sumtymes shorta'
EDIT: favourite past times include but not limited to:
*getting drunk in public on cheapest thing alcoholic as they can't afford much else
*beating up people but not one on one as the majority aren't that hard, just annoying (such as a friend of my mates sister threatening to knock me out, shame he is only 12)
*vanadalism
*trying to intimidated people
*driving around trying to intimidate people in their generally crappy nova's
this is the stereotype and unfortunately too many are like this. this is the type i hate with a passion just for the fact they're actions affect others

im not being funny right but i am a chav yeah i went 2 a grammar school i did well in my gcse's and am currently studying for A levels just because i am a chav does not man that i am stupid or less capable in anyway. Just because the situations and areas that i have grown up in have needed me to know how to stand up for myself and introduced me to certain ways of life that i have now accepted and i enjoy nights out that i have with my chavvy mates and we very rarely delibrately get into fights and do not terrorise anybody.

Chavs are chavs because of the things they do, not what they wear.... wearing the things they do jus make them noticeable.
If you wear chavvy clothes but dont intentionally start fights / shout abuse at random people / drink on street corners / vandalise / etc etc then you aint a chav.
If you do, your a prick. (Chav)

exactly bone, i catergorise people by their demeanour not by their appearance but as i said before, they're too many people acting like a tool that look like that you do tend to catergorise them straight away without leting them have time to act

the term 'chav' refers to a non-educated, anti-social delinquint....so to say chav's aren't like that is a blatant contradiction.
