As far as i understand and correct me if im wrong, Chav or a Chavvy is a word originally used to define young, pre and early white teen London kids, following that in the 70's through to the 80's English football was suffering from a mass hooliganism problem, the word was then used to describe the Burberry and Acuascutum wearing sections of fans, which were in the most part responsible for the trouble. The word is now used to describe young white kids that do not fit into the already existing stereotypes trendy, mosha/goth or wigga.
You can be labelled a Chav for many reasons, simply by wearing a hoody, baseball cap, and trainers, driving a boy racer car, gettin pissed, stoned, or feshed in some way or another on a regular basis and listenin to Hard Dance has given me the label Chav at times so if that makes me a Chav then so be it.
I think what some people are trying to say they have been labelled a Chav or show Chav like traits, but do not feel its such a bad thing, im proud of who i am, i work hard and have acheved a good life and have shown respect for other people whilst doin it, i dont look for fights or cause any real problems for anyone.
Im sorry if you dont like me because of my appearance but so be it, i aint gona change myself to make people like me, as far as followings trends go's i am who i am and was this way long before i got a label.

I believe a chav to be anyone that treats others with utter disrespect - thinking theyre hard and trying to prove it by starting on random people, shouting abuse at random people, smashin stuff (mainly phoneboxes), burnin stuff and the like. It just so happens that the people that do this kinda thing wear burberry, trackies (tucked into socks), bling, and baseball caps on the back of theyre head. These are the people i dont like.
Aslong as you (lauren, bristolboy) are sayin you only wear the gear then thats sweet with me n no i aint got a problem. If your sayin you thrive on the misery of other people and do the kinda stuff ive written that true chavs do, then your a couple of bastards that are sick in the head.
I get called a chav all the time, but not because i do any of the ****ed up shit chavs do. Im a nice guy, or atleast i think i am.

Lucy, im quite surprised by that! They musn't have been the typical Toon charvs that I know. It's just the point im making tho, they may have looked like charvs but could've been really canny, therefore are NOT charvs.

Chav is a label, thats all, its the individuals personality that counts, in the same way not all rude boys are c*nts and not all muslims set bombs off.

Appearance and attitude are 2 totally different things. LOOKING like a chav will make me wary of you, but certainly not hate you - being loud, obnoxious and generally being a nuisance to innocent people will make me hate you.
Chav is a derogatory term, and to be proud to be a chav is akin to being proud to being a football hooligan. In fact the 2 groups are very similar its just football hooligans do it between themselves and in a deluded sense of belonging to their football club. Chavs make no such distinction, and have no reasoning behind their behaviour
Lauren, you don't strike me as being a chav. You treat people with respect on here, you give educated responses to posts, you type like your older than 12.... don't group yourself in with chavs - no matter what you wear or listen to.

Normally, i would see myself as a decent person, but after numerous occasions of my mates getting twated scallies, my opinion has gone way down off them
Get lost we don't want you here, not only do you enrage me, but many other people around the UK. Chavs givce the hardcore scene such a bad name, you are ruining our reputation, as someone who hardly knows anything about hardcore would automatically just acossiate it with chavs and drugs.
As for the Americans and aussies etc who don't really have first hand experience with chavs, you are very lucky not to be living in the north west of england where i live, which is plagued with them the most

You can be called chav for many things, if ya have to screw ya mum to be a chav then i dont think many people are but ive seen little kids called chavs, isnt Wayne Rooneys bird considered a chav? when did ya last see her gettin boozed up and fightin down the local?
Chav is simple a label, people use the word to define a type of people, in any group of people there are always a few who spoil the reputation, or in this case people who are given the same reputation as someone who is causing a problem to society.
