I dont think the post count has anything to do with it, youd have to be very sad to come on and post constantly just to see that little count get bigger.
I think if the post count was gone people would still post what they where posting when the counter was in place, wont do anything for the board imo.

And they espessilly wont know him if their not allowd to topic dig.
The new people will still be able to see how long he has been a member...

Yes thats true, but there wont be any difference from him, and another member that joined the same day and has only sent 2 posts since.
Mabye what we need is instead of a post count, when guests and members browse through the topics. If they see a post that is interesting/related to hardcore/funny/shows a good point of view/or something else posertive. Then thay should be able to give a tick or smily face to their post. Then instead of having a post count, you have a tick/merit/smily count instead. I hope that makes sense to someone. For example if someone liked this post then they tick it, and i get a point. And each post could get like 5 ticks because 5 different members/guests liked it.

Exactly. Everyone has a "Joined: this date" by their avatar. I personally believe that post count, while a nice idea (everyone likes having gold stars... reminds us of kindergarden) doesn't necessarily dictate authority or senority over anyone else. And it can usually be a huge indicator that someone is spamming the crap out of forums. I like the idea of introducing a spammer ranking. I've been on forums that tally average posts per day, so it could probably be easily done.
*edit* and I also have been posting more in general discussion, because I have not been able to keep up with what has been going on in hardcore lately, with all the crap that happened to me recently. So I just READ the topics, but don't post if I have nothing intelligent to contribute to the thread. I think that is supposed to be the point of posting-- actually contributing to the thread

people should only get post counts and the stars ranking after they have been here for a certain period of time 6/9/12 months
that way it stops new people coming on and spamming to shit just to get there post count up. it seems the middle ground between keeping the post counting system as it is and getting rid of it all together
also to elaborate on underloop's idea, i am on a few forums with the karma thing. you can click + or - on how you found a post of theres, if it reachs a certain percentage, say 5- to 1+ then you get a warning, persistant offenders and banned from posting for a week, then banned all together if they carry on. well actually that isn't how it is, the boards that have it are quite small so no-one ever really gets negative percentages but with a big board with many idiots out there it should be

im still pretty new here and hopefully havent been on the wrong end of the stick with anyone during my stay but just to say i totally agree with the spammer / troller idea.
Also agree with uproar on the triggy thing.
also just to add,
there needs to be something stopping people that abuse the system to just sign up another account such as "triggy2". Users that get branded as a "spammer" or banned from posting may tend to do this. If something is put in place i just feel as though a lot of usless accounts will be created.
You have to realize there is a difference between spam and alot of topics you have read before.
Old members shouldn't moan and complain about new members posting a topic that already exists, you can't expect new people to understand this.
Spam is deleted (advertising crap), other website promotions / radio stuff are moved to the radio section. Everything else moved into the correct areas if posted in the wrong areas.
I don't want people to feel if they make a mistake or go off topic by a tiny bit that the Off topic nazi mods and admins will bust and flame their ass for it... we let it slide, but if alot of people are discussing a topic (even when the topic is off topic) we keep it open because it seems pointless just to start a new topic for that off topic when half the discussion is in the off topic thread anyway.
If someone starts an already existing topic we will nip it in the butt (lock it) and point to the current thread about it as quick as we can.
If you are bored it means you should start your own topics instead of replying to the existing ones :)
For the most part I think our moderation is quite fair, none of the mods are on power trips.
As for troll users that post crap, we PM and warn them, reduce post counts, lock users, ban IP address, just because you don't see it doesn't mean we don't do it :)
