Also I have to fork out 150 quid for some good tape decks which are outdated!

Why would you want more than one tape deck? They can't put mixes on cd as they will get sued.

When event promoters finally get round to providing us with proper, licensed CD packs it should make quite a difference. Nothing worse than losing a treasured tape (they always manage to break/die before you get the chance to make a copy)!

If there not too bad they can be fixed by melting the two ends together neatly, obviously it leaves a skip in the middle of either side.

I assumed it had snapped for some reason. Make a back up if you still can, if it's gone once it will more than likely go again.

why not just transfer the audio from the tape to a cd your self?
and i dont get why a cd would be not ok if they are allowed to put it onto tape?
i could understand prehaps if they were spliting the tracks up.. but a single track thats 70-80min long..? is no different than a tape to me.

Back when I used to buy tape packs, I would make copies as soon as I got them. No worries about damage then.
Why not get a console CD burner with an analogue input and put them on CD?

because it makes it a hell of a lot easier to pirate the stuff
some of my old tapes sound better with a nice analog hum after being played over and over

Live recordings are bootlegs, no license, totally illegal, the tapes are allowed by the artists as they promote the music at a low quality, Slammin Vinyl was sued 2 years ago for releasing unlicensed hardcore CD packs.
All promoters would have to do is pay a minor 18% to the artists and then they could release them on CD, but they dont.

18% to every artist whose tracks appear on the CD(s)?

18% artist royality...
that 18% gets split into the number of artists
100 artists on the tape pack
18% / 100 artists = each artists royality.... now think how much money artists are really earning :)

I see. That makes more sense.
Even if the royalties were paid, I'm sure that some artists still wouldn't allow it. Wasn't it Brisk who was so upset over the SV CD's because the majority of the tracks for the (then) forthcoming NG/BB album were on them?
