Ok, I saw this scratch thing done on the 2001 DMC video and I've been tryin to do it and it just seems totally impossible!! I've never seen it done by any1 else and i have no idea what its called or if it even has a name but i found a clip of it on the DMC site so i thought i'd ask about it on here.

Heres the link:

http://www.dmcworld.com/technics/archive/2001/video/p-money-56k.wvx

If you go to the end of the set, its the thing he does with the "ah yeh" sample just before he finishes. Where he pushes the record forward with his fingers but at the same time kind of pushes it back with his thumb so it sounds like hes transformin but without using the fader..... well that sounds shit but watch the clip and see for yourself!!

Can any1 on here do it or is it really as hard as it seems to me??

Cheers for any help

i read about that some where, if i remember right, i think it's done by dragging/sticking/bouncing your thumb across the record, which slows the record down really quickly and pushing forward speeds it back to normal, so it's like it's just stopping/starting really fast. also prob the reason why you still here the sample moving forward.

that's called rubs/ing, kind of the same idea as a hydroplane only using your other hand to act as a fader.

basically all you do is apply light pressure to the record so that it doesn't stop. create a light friction between the record and your fingers to make a 'bassy' friction sound; and while doing this use your other hand to push the record forward and backward

He's using the fader in the clip and only one hand on the record. : P

Cheers for all the responses lads but its not a hydroplane or a rub, there both simpler than this 1. It is a kind of develpment from them but it seems to be so much harder to do (impossible so far )

He pushes it forward but does a backwards hydroplane thing with the thumb on the same hand.... i'm gonna go and try it again and see what happens
