I want to buy a vinyl deck so i can scratch. My set up will then be 2 CDJ100s and a turntable. But do i need to buy a second mixer to connect a 3rd deck? i have another channel available at the back of my mixer, but i am confused as to how the crossfader will work,

what model mixer is it?
it basically comes down to wether or not your mixer is 2 chan or 3 chan.

so it looks like this correct? Id imagine each channel has LINE or PHONO insert for your decks/turntables. The cdj's would go into the LINE channel (you can choose any of the 2 channels) Then your Turntables would hook up to the PHONO hole for the 3rd channel)
this should work.

Channel 2 and 3 are in use by the CDJs, so the turntable will use channel 1. But how would the crossfader work. i dont understand that bit...

from looking at pictures of the mixer i cant see any channel selection for the cross fader.
So it looks like you have no control over channel 1 with the cross fader you will have to use the volume fader.
*edit*
if you only want to scratch just use the up fader.
Or buy a decent mixer like this

i am prob wrong here, but maybe if you inserted the turntable into chanel 2 or 3 with the line or phono (which ever 1 is not being used. therefore, if you have chanel 2 playing, you can flick the line/phone and it will have the turntable on chanel 3. u can then scratch and the flick it back to your normal chanel 3 and mix.
but, it would mean that you could not scratch and mix at the same time.

you can either a) plug in your turntable into phono 1 and scratch w/ the up fader or b) plug in one of your cdjs into line 1 or c) use the line/phono switch (assuming there is one on there) to switch back and forth (ie plug the turntable into phono 3 and have one cdj going into line 3. on most mixers w/o a channel controler, channel 1 is usually always 'on' so you have to control the volume of it using the up fader.
my advice: a) buy a small scratch mixer and plug it into your pos err behringer or b) buy a larger better mixer =P
