I've been trying to get a hardcore radio show on a few community stations and it's very frustrating how much narrow mindednass exists. There all happy if you play Hip Hop, Breaks, House, Electro, Techno, Alternative etc.. But when u mention the H word. Oh no, that's not really what we want on the station. Thinking on lieing about what I'm gonna play. I'll say I play euro pop and then each show I'll play more and more hardcore gradually easing the format into a hardcore format. There's a few community shows which sometimes spin hardcore, (cpx and hardcore overload in Sydney) but they all focus more on either hardstyle, hardtrance and gabba most of the time. I want to put a show on that's strictly the UK rave sound. Any suggestions, is there anyone out there who has a hardcore show on the Fm dial? Let us know how you got it on the air.

Mate its like that. People have this idea that happy hardcore is still the old skool sound of 90 - 95. A lot of people think that its just full of annoying vocals still. Try not to tell them that its happy hardcore its more UK Hardcore now days and i wouldnt even bother trying to get it on the radio personally. If you like the tracks listen to them on cd, really with the way UK hardcore is going its really getting commercial and i think when radio stations start playing out really big UK Hardcore tracks it would ruin the scene for me.

Yep I can see where you are comming from. A lot of things turn to shit when they get commercial cause money hungry people jump on the bandwagon to make a quick buck. But on the other hand I discovered hardcore from hearing it on the radio. I just want to let people out there know that they're missing out on an exciting genre of music. That's getting largely ignored by the dance press. The last thing I want to see is hardcore going commercial, but I think it does deserve more recognition than it gets and radio is a geat way to do that.

actually, Happy Hardcore IS the old stuff, todays "Happy Hardcore" doesnt have that label anymore, thus the name Upfront Hardcore or UK Hardcore came to exist

keep any kind of hardcore off of the radio.
what happened to happy hardcore here ****ed up the whole scene for any other kind of hardcore here during the 90's as well, as a result of overcommercialisation.
the only core you might still catch here on the radio is the odd HHC track from back in the day when someone is feeling nostalgic and the listening rates are at a low anyway or an old commercial gabber track or a track of which ppl here usually think it's not hardcore but it is :s
let's keep it that way

I think it's the speed. It's generally faster than all the other genres you mentioned.

It would seem the faster the genre of music is, the less popular it is, it's just harder for people to appreciate I think. Ask yourself how many Gabber shows you get on community radio, then ask yourself how many speedcore shows you get on community radio.

Its still called 'Happy Hardcore' here in the USA, well here in GA. Some Djs are trying push the name "UK Hardcore" now, but everyone is still calling it Happy Hardcore. I think the faster the music is, the happier i am, lol. Thats why I listen to the music, its fast (usually) and uplifting, but I dont want the music exposed, but we American's dont have to worry about that, the hip hop/rap artist have it programmed in ppls minds that 'techno' music is not cool, and the goverment has it programmed that only druggies listen to 'techno'.

gotta love that american government :P
i dont no about hvaing hardcore on the radio, but where i am there's starting to be more ppl taking notice of and going to hardcore nights at clubs. i was at one last nightand it went off! no big internationals or anything, just local guys ripping it up, playing what the ppl wanted!
the scene is really starting to pick up over here. and i find that its actually a lot off ppl who DONT usually listen to "dance" music at all that are starting to convert.
pretty sweet imo :D
