It depends on what you are trying to do...
When I'm mixing in a song with a completely diff bass line then one song I might turn down the lows as I mix it in, but bring them up when it seems right.
Also, it's useful when mixing in a Gabber track to sort of gradually bring up the lows on it and turn down the lows on the other track.
Just mess around a bit, and you might find something that works for you.
The more fun parts are using a filter to filter out the highs, but in terms of EQ's its not that important.
