Makina is quite unique and at the min- my favourite style by far. It's fast, full of energy and cheese!!

best way to tell is the speed really
scouse is about 140-155 bpm (beats per minute)
hardcore (uk hardcore) is about 170-180 bpm and sounds pretty much just like scouse but faster,
i think makina is about 175-190 bpm? couldnt really say though but it is usually faster than uk hardcore in general although there is the old slower stuff, it is roughly the same speed as hardcore but it has hard kicks and usually has an acid'y sound to it

And don't forget the unmistakable sound of the donk! in scouse house.
Quite a few tunes now seem to have a hardcore mix, a scouse house mix and a commercial dance mix especially if AATW are involved!

Is it only me who doesn't agree with this... Sure they have some similarities but they aren't the same as each other just at different speeds :s I love hardcore but don't rate scouse at all TBH just sounds turd to me... I hate hardcore using donk(ish) bass as well (recon rmx of angel eyes etc), yuk!
Makina has lots of high pitched "mosquito" sounds not too dissimilar to the ones used in some hardstyle, the production is generally a little rougher round the edges and isn't quite as trancey sounding as UK hardcore IMO. The main difference is that it's Spanish hardcore though.
*edit*
BTW I believe Wigan Pier do play some hardcore and they definitely have a hardcore disk on one of their CD's... Also there are allot of Scouse version of Hardcore tunes like your my angel, pretty green eyes, your shining, heartbeats, angel eyes etc and vice versa too.

I agree with you.
The only real difference (that I notice) that Hardcore has with Scouse House is the bassline, but with Scouse House artists making donkish basslines in Hardcore (except for the speed) it's hard find differences between the two styles.

WTF
Why can't Hardcore just be called Hardcore like the good old days
Simple. You can Hardcore, Techno, Drum & Bass, House, Hard House, Trance and commercial.
If I made a track I would die of old age before i sifted through all the categories!!!!!!

Yeh, like Your shininf or Heartbeats. There are the well known Hardcore remixes along with Hard Dance/ House mixes and even Funky House mixes sometimes not forgetting the odd Gabber remix or a freeform remix just so theat everyone has a remix they like!

I'm kinda 50/50 most uk hardcore thats gettin played in main rooms sounds pretty much exactly like scouse sped up to me bein honest, but aye not all of it i wouldnt say most Kurt, Joey Riot, Scott Brown or whatever is sped up scouse and freeform, breakbeat hardcore etc is a totally different ballgame.
Remember not all scouse house is donk infact loads isnt, it's just like pop trance really and thats what a lot of hardcore sounds like aswell.
Loadsa scouse house and commercial trance tunes get pitched up in hardcore sets and most people wouldnt notice the difference or they'd think it's originally a hardcore track.
Not particularly into either style but theres some good bits to both, some of the bouncy scouse stuff i find quite fun but aye would need to be wrecked to enjoy a full night of it.
And makina isnt faster than uk hardcore, some is the same speed but most is slower especially the older stuff.
Jus basically means hardcore from spain so you get cheesy stuff, harder stuff and the style i like which is kinda german trance and hardcore crossbreed, bouncy as you like, ravey and uplifting at the same time.
Makina is meant to be played on 3 decks with bases (b sides full of acid synths as bulby said mosquitos) or hardstyle in the background. It normally sounds shit on 2 decks but with the bases and constant mixing on 3 i like it.
Wigan pier plays mainly scouse house of all styles, the donk, eurotrance, slower uk hardcore etc but they have started doin the odd set of the more popular uk anthems at the end.
New monkeys now shut and played everything from 90's makina, italian, donky hard house, old hardcore, scouse house and the odd tune of uk hardcore.
