OK, my first ever topic on this site was one requesting MP3s. Got a right bollocking for it, off Silver and everyone else. Deservedly so, I should have read the rules, and not be trying to blag freebies etc.....
(By spending time on here, I must admit, I've been educated a fair bit about the issue.)

However, things have changed a little bit now. Every other person owns an I-pod these days, and they will actually sell you LEGITIMATE high quality MP3s, even exclusives that aren't released on vinyl!

Anyway, to the point, at the end of July, I'll be starting a student work experience placement at the Best Western Premier Kilin crown hotel in Qingdao, China, and I'll be there for between 6-12 months depending on my performance. There is absolutely no way I'm going to be able to fit a pair of 1210s and my record collection in my suitcase. (I'm gutted, I'd rather use Vinyl anyday!)

So I think I'll be either taking a laptop with me, or getting one whilst out there. I'll get a surround sound card, Headphones, Active speakers and use Traktor, to satisfy my mixing cravings. Does anyone know of any LEGITIMATE sites that will sell me high quality digital Hardcore (or Drum 'n' Bass) tracks, that will play on Traktor?

I've had a look on Juno, and their selection ain't to great, however IMO download seems promising. Are there anymore good sites out there?

Just an idea mate, couldn't you get them shipped out on a courier?

It would cost a bit, and I don't trust them that much with my precious decks and records. Plus there's the amps and speakers that'll need shipping out too, plus I'll be living in a hotel room for a year and I'm not sure if it'll go down too well. A tinny pair of speakers won't upset no guests, but it'll get me through my stay.

I'd have to wait ages for vinyl to arrive once ordering it, plus I'm not sure that an hotel room can be considered a good delivery location. Also I'd have to ship it all back afterwards!

BUT, if I moved out there permanently, trust me I would risk it and ship them over, I'd probably still go partially digital because of, as mentioned, delivery times, but it would be a pair of CDJ-1000s not Traktor I think.

I've only been mixing with digital files, and I cant see all the fuzz about it. It might look abit funny when a DJ is using a computer when he mixes lives, but then, I dont do live since im a bedroom DJ (properly the reason why I dont bother much :P)

If i remember right, Darude uses 2 laptops when hes playing live. I dont think it really matters what equipment everyone uses, as long as it sounds good.

I suppose with Hardcore it does not requiring lightning quick cueing up, like DnB does (if you like to do double drops alot), unless you scratch loads, so I think I won't have no problems going digital. But for DnB, I dread the day that they stop producing vinyl.

With hardcore it seems that everyone's using cds these days (Although, it's nice to hear that Robbie Long still cuts dubplates!), in DnB, the best DJs are still reluctant to use cds, and will cut loads of dubplates. One rumour I've heard mentioned is that both Andy C and Friction will still easily spend £1000-1500 a month each cutting dubplates from MP3s that have been sent by producers over AIM and stuff like that.

But still, I've got to face the facts, and I can't take my record collection with me. I do wonder what the legal status is about ripping from vinyl for your own personal use, but to be honest, in order to be lazy I'm more likely just to pay £1 for my very favourite tracks, than to spend hours recording every single track.

In Sweden, which I currently live in, I got the right to make backup of the music I own, as long as it's not 'protected' somehow. Even DVD's are this way, even if it says "Copying is prohibited", but thats the law.

anyways, I always ripp my vinyls (could always use my only deck in mixing, but that would look stupid =P), but I'm not aiming to become a real DJ

I've been using final scratch for years, its version 1 (not the fancy number 2)

it is pure quality, what i do is rip all my vinyl and just use FS and as long as you rip the tune right no one could ever tell its digital

also a good site for old hardcore tunes is

www.dance-tunes.com

its got the full back cateloge of Dwarf & babyboom records and plenty more stuff like that

its also one of the cheapest
