Bring back Brainstorm, the Sharkey & Mark EG mix album that was released in 1999. However, they should dedicate say 3 discs to the more experimental Hardcore out there, and give lesser known djs the chance to do something a little bit different. I think there is a place for the more upfront UK Hardcore but we have Bonkers, Hardcore Heaven, Hardcore Nation etc. Brainstorm suggests a more forward thinking album, a chance to showcase Freeform, Hardcore Breaks and Gabba. What do u lot think? Who should mix it if it ever happens and what styles of Hardcore should be included?

Good idea, but would it shift enough units?
I'm still hoping they'll repress the original Brainstorm album...

If they're not sure it'll sell they won't touch it with a bargepole!

I hear what ur saying DJSuperb & djDMS bout resist wouldnt take a risk with a change in direction, but remember the original Brainstorm was released during the dark days of Hardcore. Since joining the forums i've noticed a lot of people saying they dislike Bonkers & Clubland etc and saying the complations are the same old thing time and time again (me included!) So i think there would be a lot of support if Resist were to re-launch the Brainstorm brand. Failing that they could shove a pair of tits on it like Hardcore Heaven 3

I agree.
Never said they shouldn't do it, just know that they won't.
Biggest risk they've taken so far with one of their releases is putting Scott Brown & Neophyte together on Bonkers for a full on Nu-style mix - and they only got away with that because it was a 4 CD set.
There are loads of people who would love to see something different being released, and there have been a few albums that didn't follow the more 'commercial' route.
Trouble is, they've either been a cheaper price (Illegal ravers, WOW 10, Introduction to climatic moments etc), or have been full of good intentions but haven't sold an awful lot of copies (Hardcore reunited).
Another problem is, we see loads of people saying 'oh, if you put DJ so and so on an album i'll buy it' - and then the majority either don't bother or it takes so long to get it released they've got a new favoutite DJ.
I've been waiting 2 years for the Bedlam album - would be surprised if it happens now. I can see potentially poor sales being a big reason for this.
I could name 20 or 30 DJ's who i'd like to see mix an album - but even with the best intentions in the world it'll still end up as either a label showcase or a limited mix of stuff that doesn't appear elsewhere.
So while it's great to see new ideas and suggestions, business and sales projections always win in the end!

Sadly I think ur right. Though i'm still gonna hold out hope of a new Brainstorm. After Bonkers 7 I never thought they wud release number 8, but after the problems React had with money and having to stop the React label in 2004 I don't think it's likely....... I live in hope.....

Unfortunately, the current Hardcore 'scene' is nowhere near as big as people think it is.
While your average raver might be clued up on Bonkers, Raver Baby, Where Darren Styles gets his T-shirts from etc, they don't know enough about the smaller labels/artists - the ones who are making the REAL progress.
How many ravegoers know that much about how hard labels like RFU, Bedlam, TnC, are trying to bring something new to the scene?
Not a lot i'll bet, exactly the reason why they'll keep buying their Bonkers, Hardcore nation, Clubland Xtreme etc until they're no more - then move onto something else.

Don't get too excited, I don't think you'll see another entry in the Brainstorm series alas.
However, Sharkey has literally just released more info on his artist album and there might just be something else on the horizon, as well, worth getting excited about....
