Sony has pushed back the European launch date for its PlayStation 3 console by around four months.
The technology giant blamed delays in the production of a component for the PS3's new disc technology.
UK fans and retailers will be disappointed by the console's revised March 2007 debut, which will miss the lucrative pre-Christmas market.
Sony had previously delayed the PS3's European launch from spring this year to November 17 because of production problems.
The next-generation console will still go on sale as planned in Japan and North America on November 11 and November 17 respectively. Sony is sticking to its initial global target of shipping six million PS3 consoles within the tax year ending 2007.
Announcing the delayed launch date at a press conference in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi said: "We decided to focus on the Japanese and US markets. I am so sorry not to be able to answer to all the expectations.
"We've been working hard to try to tackle the problem, but we see the delay is inevitable.'

Sony needs to catch up to microsoft in the North American market and needs to sell enough units in Japan this is probally the main reason for the delay, I love it how Australia is not even mentioned.

Maybe they didn't mention Australia because the population makes it a bit insignificant in comparison to potential buyers else where ;)

Australian release is "scheduled" for March 2007 now... meh, who's complaining?... Microsoft with Vista, Sony with PS3... Raver Baby with everything

it is a shame, ps3 have screwed up this time, i still have my 360 to entertain me, and the Wii is expected to lauch before x-mas.ps3 have got alot of catchin up to do!

I think a lot of xmas presents in the UK will just be a lot of "IOU a PS3". Sony are going to lose millions by missing out on the christmas rush, and when March comes the prices of the Wii and XBOX 360 will have dropped quuite significantly in comparison to the £300 and upwards PS3 release price

all I can do is sit back and laugh.... hehehe I love my xbox 360.
Sucks for the people that want the ps3 in europe and australia though. I can imagine a lot of US ps3's are gonna travel countries over ebay for reallly high prices for the die hards.

i want a ps3 but im the sort of person will wate about a year wen it comes out so i can get it cheap lol ... depends how ma cravings for it are :p the nintendon Wii ... Lmao sorry thats just a ****ing ridiculas name and im not gonna be able to ask for games for it can i have ... on the Wii lmao actually try saying it lol its hilarious
ps3 will be wicked though so they ****ed up ... who dont :D

I think sony have shot themselves in the foot. By the time the PS3 is out, you'll be able to find XboXes for the price of a Gamecube
