Ive got this music assignment and its really hard cause i dont know most of it lol, so i was wondering if people here could maybe give me some pointers or links that can help me.
Write a comparative analysis of two different pieces within one genre.
Ive decided to do trance cause i thought it'd be the easiest since its very broad. The two songs ive chosen to analyze are "Protect Your Ears" by Dj Dean and "Stay" by Dj Encore.
Ok heres the list of stuff i need to put down:
'feel' - time signature, swung or straight, rhythm pattern
dynamics
texture and tone colors
instrumentation, including use of voice
tonality - scales or atonality
chord progressions (or lack thereof)
structured or form - structured, or free
use of a text (lyrics, libretto)
melodic line - ascending/descending, counterpoint, canon
use of riff or theme
use of layers, as in sampled music
background/foreground - melody and accompaniment
tension and release
Theirs also tempo, use of music technology and live performance, but those ones are pretty straight forward. T_T i find the rest very confusing, just any help would be greatly appreciated.
Due this thursday..NooooOOooooOoo lol

I really know how you feel here, i have to finish some music anylsis assigments and i'm a little behind on what was taught because of previous stuff not sinking in.
I would say it's nearly impossible to write such an assigment without truly understanding music theory (which i'm assuming is what is being taught in the lesson relating to that assigment). But clearly that is why your asking here.
What exactly is meant by comparatave analylsis btw?

I think the others pretty much speak for themselves, but for the 'form', you should write about structure of the song, so for example, you should say that the song works like this (as an example): Intro > verse > chorus > verse > bridge > chorus > outro. You should mention what key it starts in.
If it's a Trance song, it will definately have a 4/4 time signature.
I'll try and find these 2 songs and see what info i can give, though i'm no expert myself :)
