It's well proven that Exams (or whatever they call em nowadays) are easier to pass, mainly because of what Underloop said earlier - kids aren't taught anything other than how to pass them. The schools are more interested in how they look than what the students learn.

At least when i was at school i actually understood what i was being taught - didn't just learn to memorise loads of stuff that i hadn't a clue about!

thats complete bollocks , you dont go to school now and aint been to school lately so how can you honestly say peops today dont understand whatt they're bein taught???

Cunney, nobody is saying that *all* kids don't understand - many do, but in general the teaching style isn't geared to kids understanding. Although I finished school about 8 years ago, I then went on to uni and realised just how little that I personally didn't understand, but knew (if that makes sense?). Later on (about 4 years ago) I ended up helping teach first year undergrads for about 3 years and I noticed exactly the same thing - we were having to help some of them with stuff they should have learnt in sixth form. I'm now doing personal tuition, and I can see it in every student. They know, for example, that the formula for the force opposing motion due to friction is F = uN, but they have no idea why. They know that if they have a force at a funny angle they can resolve it into 2 forces at right angles to each other, but they have no clue as to why they should be doing it, or even why it actually works, just that thats what you do.

Oh My ***!!!! That is absolutely unbelievable.
I have one teacher, who I respect very highly, who regularly tells us to question what we are told. Always ask, why?

to true! I was in th last year of O'levels when I was in school! passed 5 and failed 3! so when I resat the 3 I failed, GCSE's were brought in, couldn't beleive my luck! Got 2 D's and an E in my O'levels but got 2 B's and a C in the GCSE's! it was so much easier! and that was 18 years ago! I think they are probably even easier now!
Would love to see a class of thirty 16 year olds sitting an O'level Maths paper now! and see their faces!

Well obviously i wasn't referring to EVERYBODY was i numbnuts? I'll repeat what i said in a slightly different way if it helps.

TODAY'S TEACHING METHODS (generally speaking of course), are more about teaching kids how to pass exams than they are to do with the actual learning of the subjects. That's not to say nobody understands it - there are still plenty of intelligent kids out there, but a good memory is just as important as a brain these days!

My experiences of modern teaching only come from people i know who are teachers - but they'll definitely back me up on this. All i hear about is how they feel they can't express themselves because of policies/targets etc etc....

Reminds me of this:

I remember something similar happened to me in year 3 (2nd grade i think) our teacher handed out sheets of paper about how to tell the time. It said that the longer hand indicates the hours and the shorter hand indicates the minutes. I told the teacher that this was wrong and being the b1tch that she was sent me out the class for "questioning the teaching method that allows her to sit back and scratch her ass" and she made everyone else copy what was on the sheet. Tomorow she was trold from a member of staff that the sheet was wrong and she made us rewrite the whole thing, without an appoligie for me of course!

That's why i think education in schools is shite
