I've used that before, and for the price i'd say it's worth getting. It's only like £250, and for a tube compressor that's nothing. Though it's the only tube compressor i've used, so i don't have any basis for comparison, but you can't go wrong for the price :P
As for best synths for making Hardcore, these days, there isn't any specific synth really, since you can use any synth to get the same sound. Though if your looking for Trancy kind of sounds, undoubtably the Virus (any of them, but clearly your familiar with the Virus family) and JP8080 are the best. Personally i prefer Trance leads from the JP8080, i think they sound alot nicer and smoother (JP8080's cost around £350-450m, but can get them even cheaper from the US), but the JP8080 isn't as versatile as the Virus.
For older Hardcore (1994-1999), undoubtably the Roland Alpha Juno (1 or 2, they both have the same synth engine) is something you should get, since most of the sounds used then would have been from that, especually in Dutch Hardcore. It's where the hoover originates from, and that's the sound i mean. They only cost about £150 on ebay aswell.

it took us to years to get it i dont think we will give it up that easy
hey we cant even afford our hosting fees let alone just buying a virus ti
we would have to sell the Virus rack and the k station just to think about getting it at the mo

Def worth getting the ti, the new patches have made it allot more stable and its just like using a soft synth to create patches, i have one and for hardcore its definatly the best. woosh

we have never had a problem with that from the virus the k station had a few problems and the sh32 played up a bit when we first got it
the bad thig is i aint even using them at the min because we have nowere suitable to keep it all so we just make sample packs (Bass, Synth, Reece's,Hoovers) once and a while and use vst to make our tunes
but when we do we normaly make noises for D&B Meh!
So i am thinking of buying a ti for me
but i only own a substandard k station v.1.01 woohoo automate 1 thing at a time wich is poo
N E Way i am starting to rant so i am gona go and eat my take away
;)
