xmas is coming up and i really want to get something to get me started into hardcore production or dj'in. Ive kinda been looking into midi controllers and decks im not sure what would be best. Would i be better of getting a controller or spending an extra $150 or so to get a set of decks and mixer? or should i maybe just put the money into software?

where do i start? :/

decide whether you'd rather make music, or mix music to play out in your area.

make: Software, proper monitors (!!!), midi controller

mix: turntables/cd decks, mixer, tunes

if you don't have decent monitors for your production it could sound like ass when you play it out...ie parts could be too loud, too soft, etc.

good example, friend of mine played out a tune he remixed...sounded great at home but when he played it out at the venue the bass was extremely loud. he had to turn the bass all the way down for it not to distort
