Hello
Just want to say, I've not been here for a while so what I’m about to say may have already been discussed.
I've realised that recently more than ever Hardcore is being commercialised more and more. If you just look at the TV adverts for all the recent stuff and some of the older stuff , it’s just getting more and more commercial and its beginning to really piss me off. Like in the advert for Clubland Hardcore 3 I think, Hixxy and Storm are like "buy this alum" etc. Even CLSM has picked up on it, I remember seeing a video on here not so long ago, and the chorus I believe went something like "give us cash cash money".
And if you compare Hardcore now to what it used to be, say like just before Bonkers 8 or 9 you will see quite a difference. I think that should be classified Happy Hardcore and the more recent stuff just Hardcore.
I wasn’t really old enough to appreciate Hardcore when it first started up (I'm only 20) but I know back then, it was more underground, and now you have adverts with female ravers mainly looking fit (don’t get me wrong, its nice!) but its like Hardcore is "selling" its self out.
But the good thing about it being on TV and in the charts is that it’s reaching an increased audience size. Also the fact that such a commercial brand, Clubland has taken Hardcore "under its wings" with Clubland X-Treme Hardcore 1 - 3, its reaching even more people that maybe wouldn’t have purchased the album if it didn’t have the label Clubland. Also recently I think The Ministry of Sound played a part in Hardcore Euphoria and some other albums.
Sorry for rambling!

This has been discussed quite a lot...almost too much.
I, personally, do not like a lot of hardcore that's been coming out this past few years...same sounding...no 'rawness' to the tunes.
The tunes seem to well polished off and I seriously miss the chipmonk vocals and the raw energy the tunes had.
To be fair, the tunes released now are to an amazing standard..but are aimed at TODAYS teenagers....Back in the mid 90's...things were very different. It was all 'Happy Hardcore' then...it was brilliant!!
But with all the comercialism (imo - Mainly bonkers, clubland...), this has forced others to take the step and start to put things right. This has come in the form of 'Hardcore Underground' (There is a topic on the album here somewhere)..and more recently Hardcore 2007. WOW What a rush have always stayed with their tradition, cheap CD - Not-so-popular-hardcore..brillance.
But with all this comercialism...It will build up....go up...then die...like so many other music genres. Then in 10 years time, It will be a new breed of teens complaing that the music is changing and it was 'better years ago'.
Just one of lifes vicious circles...
^ ^ Now, THAT's a rant!!

Yeah man, defo on the chipmunk and rawness point!
I also agree with the tunes being produced to an excellent high professional standard! Its good shit...just not the same.

Yea, almost everyone has noticed this. I have no objection with this as long as quality is maintained. More people introduced into this can only mean more songs to be made, and for the genre to flourish.

Yep I can see where your comming from. But I think this will help the scene more than harm it, this means producers will be making more money so they be able to put out better tunes. Hopefully it will bring more of the great oldskool producers back. It's so great to see Slipmatt and Seduction back on board. But would love to see Vinylgroover come to his senses and produce hardcore again. Also Vibes to join the scene fulltime too. The only danger of commercialization is the music being made just for money and that could be bad as it would water down the hardcore sound. Finqures crossed lets hope it does'nt happen.

soon you guys will have a repeat of what happened over here in the 90's.
overcommercialisation will lead to a a mainstream branch of he genre which will drag the whole scene down to hell with it. then it will dissolve into nothing again and only the hard core remain to bring the scene back to life.

Most of the big "hardcore" CD's coming out lately are commercial muck that I wouldn't even call hardcore, sick of the same trancey vocal tunes being played/remixed over and over again.
I listen to a select view tunes and mixes and stick with the style, most of the new stuff is crap.
Find your style and stick with it, there's still loads of good stuff being produced, it's just in the minority.

There is a lot more to Hardcore than Clubland, raverbaby ect. It is a shame that alot of that Hardcore came out ten years ago! But I don't care how old it is. To me when ever I hear a new Bouncy Techno track from 1995, it is not dated to me, it is new to me!

Everything has to evolve. I knew when i first started listening to happyhard that it would become more of a commerecial entity. Which is a good thing. More money in the industry, more promoters will be willing to put on a happyhard dj because of its increasing popularity. I must admit the sounds of 94-97 are still my favourite. The trickle down effect will take hold even more with existing producers takening on new talent and new producers entering the fray. I don't think the major producers will forget their roots and they still produce alot of ewhat would be considered not mainstream music. AS long as the diversity remains and there are still producers out there tthat create an underground sound, as well as the commercial sound, then that is the best of both worlds.

I think that's already happened here once aswell, towards the end of the 90's. I don't think it was the sort of 'happy/hard' divide that you might be talking about though...

this comes up on a weekly basis
who cares if it's "commerical", the only hardcore things making money are events and bonkers/clubland
you cant really say a record label that sells 2000 copies of a record is commerical (thats like 1000 pounds of profit)
in Canada its still underground: small events, no compilations in stores, no hardcore vinyl stores, no TV adverts etc.
its the same music though - the music hasnt changed because its commercial (minus a few exceptions), its changed because the music has evolved to a more polished production level
sure some tracks are boring but the tracks we find boring now used to be just plain BAD instead of being boring
BAD or boring...both choices suck, we used to have some wicked tracks and BAD tracks, now we have wicked tracks and BORING tracks
who cares, ignore the boring or bad!

I think its alright that these same topics come up often, it just proves this comunity isnt limited to the pepes with high post counts, tht we see most the time :)
Dont think theres much to worry bout, who cares if hardcore is geting comercial. Just means more money to the producers like some people have already said. I love the raw underground sound, cant stand the over produced stuff. But like someone said, ya get the best of both worlds :)
