Sorry about my lack of knowledge of electronic dance music and termonology, so my post might not make sense. Anyways I havent been active in the happy hardcore scene for a few years now. And recently listened to some new stuff. And Was just curious when did happy hardcore start to sound so trancey? And is anyone still producing the more breakbeat orientated stuff?

Breakbeat stuff is virtual gone the market for faster breakbeat stuff is almost gone.
Most breakbeat stuff now is slower around 150bpm or so. Loads of labels putting out this stuff. ill list some later when im not busy.
Its been trancey for about 6 years or so.

I have heard of Hardcore breaks which is meant to be Old skool sounding. Some Freeform has breaks in it as does a small bit of Upfront stuff but most of the Trancy stuff seems to be like club music, only faster!

I think Hardcore Breaks (150 BPM) is much more popular, or at least on the rise, than we are giving it credit. Remember it occupied the first CD of Hardcore 2007 (a hugely commercial CD).
(Directed towards Smoogie)

The first disc was breaks or what i have seen being called rave breaks not hardcore breaks.
HB is on the rise just look at the amount of labels releasing stuff atm with more cropping up all the time.

Yup, I'm glad someone else pointed this out aswell. I'm sick of people saying Raver Baby was responsible for hardcore turning to a trancier sound. When all is said and done, people like Dougal, Scott Brown, Brisk & Trixxy, Demand ect where all making tracks with a trancey edge way back in 1999...two years before Raver Baby's frist release.

lol thats the worst bonkers album, hixxy's mix was at like 140 bpm trance...
anyways... i think around like 99, cos 'this is noize' on the second cd, started to show the trancecore a little, but it began to develop from the bonkers series.

Bollocks. The trancey sound was around way before This is Noize & Bonkers bought into it, FFS, Bonkers isn't some kind of Holy Grial of hardcore that has to be adhered all the time.
