Anyone heard the news? Petrol that is contaminated is probably in some of our cars! Definatley mine. Symptoms are..lack of acceleration, possible misfiring! |If you have these problems they say to take it to a garage and have it draind cos it could cost lots to repair as it could ruin your cat, plus emmisions are supposed to be a lot more. They are saying it could bring repair bills running into millions for us motorists! FFS! What next?

It was on the ITN news at 10. Only heard petrol mentioned! I would listen or look up on teletext to double check though!

hmmmm Ethanol... They're trying to make it MANDATORY to mix ethanol with petrol down here in Australia (10% is *apparently* safe)... there's no way i'm putting anything containing ethanol in my bike!! We have a bottle of ethanol at work, its basically a pure form of metho...

not all petrol. If they did that it'd destroy engines. Use caltex vortex (the 96 octane, not the 98) which is ethanol free. A few petrol stations advertise taht their petrol is ethanol free as well. I don't think the big players have ethanol just yet.
Though i wouldnt put shell petrol, especially optimaxx in my engine either...

ethanol is just purely the active element-branch of alcohol, innit?
if it's minor contamination it should really damage your car. especially if you run on 98 octane.
