yea you cannot ignore quality tracks that are released only in mp3 . thats childish
its not about the money . its about the quality and if they push the boundaries
there is a shitload of crap out there too tho so i somewhat understand. maybe a list of labels that qualify to be as professional sounding as a vinyl label ?

We had to draw the line somewhere to make the database actually useful, a database of every sound file out there that the artist called hardcore isn't going to help anyone. We also had to make the line clear and easy to use, the more complex the rule the more stupid it seems, if we make a rule that is digital okay if you have had vinyl or a CD complation how much overhead work is that for the records DB mods?
If your a digital label / artist and your get your tracks on CD compilations (not really hard to do if your tracks are upto par) then your in the DB and you get your artist badge.
Another way to get in is do a remix for someone that gets a vinyl release / CD compliation, you will get into the record DB and get an artist medal. I guess you could say you have to work a little for the badge, it's not easy to get, heck look at my artist ID in the database, had to wait until one of my own tracks was released before I could do the same. It's all about fairness :)

oh im personally not worried about that. i submitted some info in the DB thread... :)
it just sucks that theres a lot of good tunes in mp3 only that wont be cataloged here. i guess if you want a good search on music, hit up discogs.com ?
ya also gotta consider its somewhat the future of the market, right.... ;)

Put it this way, how do you draw the line between a real digital download and someone with fruitloops, pressing a few buttons, spending 10 mins, upload it to a a download site?
Before you answer, you can't say you can hear the difference, because you can't make rules based on musical taste as everyone has their own tastes.
The system is fair, if your good enough to get onto a CD compilation your good enough for a artist medal.

it has nothing to do with taste. if the melodies are off key , the structures , the processes . even when you make a 64k clip of a well produced track , it shows.
it can also be determined by who is running the label. if well-established artists are on the label, remixes, hired engineers for mastering, word of mouth, big players playing the tracks, etc.
cus now-a-days , if you dont write happy. your ****ED. the digital world is unleashing a lot of garbage but at the same time. its a chance for more underground styles to come out of the wood work cus all vinyl labels are to scared to risk it
im not on the badge sumbject... just the mp3 being worthy of being databased

That's my point, what if the artist said the melodies are suppose to be off key, that's the entire point of the track, they will say. I think you get my point, a simple and clear cut rule is the only fair way without playing "god of what is hardcore music in our record DB". Besides it also would require the records db mods to listen to every track out there before it went into the database, something we just don't have time for.

I agree with you some is worthy musically of standing up with anything released on vinyl or CD comps, and it would be cool to add it, but I think you can understand why we can't.

Yes, the only thing delaying is time. I'm at work at the moment, probably will be tommorrow too (theres no way i'll get all finished today). Same thing was last weekend. Just need to find the time, and then ill add them.

does that mean you would like us to start adding releases again to the topic you posted asking for releases. Or wait till you've cleared some of the back log.

I was reading through this thread with interest as it was me who first mentioned MP3's. I have to say, Silver has summed it up in one post right here.

Nope, not yet. Need more people, or a new system. Currently i'll try to find time to add tracks from the members of this site. So that their artist pages are as complete as possible.
