Ok so i have been djing for a little while mostly i spin house, every second week i spin at my local club, not much but its a start.
My dilema is that the club i spin at is starting up an under 18's and i have been asked to do it. Maybe i should have said no but i need the money so agreed. Thing is i have never tried spinning hardcore!!
Use to listen to it years back but as of late i have not really keep up to date. I have attempted my first mix and would appreciate any feedback
I know it ain't the best mix, it is my first attempt and my hardcore collection is rather small (until monday/tuesday spent my wage on vinyl ) but any pointers in where i am going wrong or how to improve you be greatly appreciated.

Yep hardcore is what they want, and yes i know about the tunes being pretty old but have got not got much hardcore although between today and tomorrow have another 20+ vinyl coming and i am gonna search juno imo and beatport to see what else i can d/l.
All the tunes i played were either vinyls or full mp3's (none are mixed) Should i be trying to mix them for longer?
Cheers

oh k well aslong as you have lyk new stuff dats ok, when i ment mix i ment lyk let the song play longer be for you start to mix somthing in and mixing it out. but it depends sometimes if you do nice short songs mixed ( lyk playing only 2min of a song) it can sound nice at times

Cheers for the feedback mate i appreciate it.
Anyone else got any? Come on i know the mixing is not the best but have pengo, dwarf, evolution, quosh and lots of other labels stuff on there!
The under 18's don't start till the 27th of next month (4 weeks on friday) so in that time i think i can boost my hardcore collection quite alot.
All the new tune i have ordered have been from 06/07 so most are fairly new, have also looked out some older ones i already had pengo, mid town, babyboom, dwarf, etc so by then i will have more than enough for the night (under 18's is only open for 3 hours)
Will get some practice in once my new vinyl arrive and i will upload another mix just of the newer stuff
Cheers

With under 18's it depends on the event i think. Anthembashing is what a lot of dj's will do at the events but bein honest i sometimes think people dont give the younger ravers enough credit. Under 18's i used to go to sometimes played a good variety of stuff and i watched a video of some event down in carlisle and they were goin nuts to gabba, oldstuff and everything.

Best bets probably just try playing a mixture like do a mix of your older stuff and the newer ones, see what gets best reaction and build on it from there.
Will listen to your set and let you no what i think anyway mate

Right man jus gave it a quick listen there, some excellent tunes in there and i'm sure would work for the under 18's.
Mixings not a lost cause, it was rough but nothing that cant be sorted by putting in the hours for the next 4 weeks and get to no your tunes again.
Some bits were mixed really weird like not qued up at right part, again just learnin yourn records and practicing in next 4 weeks will be fine. Really didnt like the mixing of 2 mixes of "my little fantasy" shoulda just whacked the second mix on, ****in tune but jus sounded weird. Also the mixing from old to new and back i didnt feel flowed, but thats probably more cos i dont like the newer stuff.
But aye loadsa nice bouncy tracks i enjoyed, whats first one on the set called i dont remember it played?

1st track = brothers in crime - destiny (dj norman remix) f*cking love that tune
Thx for the feedback mate and yes i know and agree 100% about the mixing from the older stuff to the newer stuff, i will be trying to avoid that or at least until i have a bigger collection and find tunes that i can make the transition without it sound as shit as the ones on that mix do
4 tune fairytales, i would say when bringing the first mix in it wsa way off so it kinda threw me of my stride
but thanks for all the feedback recieived i will post another mix in a couple of weeks i just hope theres a drastic improvement
cheers

You've got the time mate, try playing the tracks you like best and learn them inside out.
But aye having a variety of stuff (new and old) will be good so you can test the crowd and see what they like.
Brothers in crime made some amazing tracks, cheers for that one hadnt heard it before.
