When hardcore over here went very quiet and events died out, what music did you mainly listen to?
I personally thought hardcore was gone for good, still played odd rez tape at times but from about 99-02 i was mad into trance/hard trance and in my head hardcore was a thing of the past.
Got back into hardcore by chance through a spanish bcn style mix my mate had and realised new stuff was being made that sounded new and fresh, took it from there and music tastes kept changing over time.
But anyway late 90's-early 00's what were all of you into? Trance, dnb, hard house, oldskool, stuck with hardcore or a mixture?

Definitely trance. peach @ camden palace every friday, they used to get some big names like jon 00, guy ornadel, ferry corsten, tiesto, armin etc. I also thought hardcore was a goner til I noticed bonkers 9 in hmv one day, gave it a listen and realized how much I missed it!

Aye thats starting up again loadsa my mates used to go there, gonna give it a try heard a lot of good things.
But aye the trance/hard trance was the first times i went to big events, had some excellent nights and still enjoy a lot of the tunes released now.
Did anyone keep paying attention to hardcore and was there still tracks been made regularly? Were they any good and was there still any good events going if you bothered to find them?

Hardcore never really died up here, when it was dieing around the rest of the Uk the Makina sound was just starting to get played up here so that took over hardcore before it had a chance to die really.
At the time though I'd sacked it off anyway and was just listening to trance and hard house but that was my choice not because it had 'died'.

I listend to the Venga Boys. Didn't even know what Hardcore was back in 1999. I also liked all the 'Pop Dance' stuff and slowly dug further through Trance Ibiza stuff and then Hardcore in 2004.

How well the scene was doing never reflected how much i listened to Hardcore. Anyway in 1999 i was really into Trance, upto about 2001 when it changed too much. Trance really was amazing then, and it still is when i listen to it now (stuff from then), but new Trance just isn't the same anymore and hasn't been since 2001.

Disagree there matt mate.
Back then it was brand new and they perfected a formula, after 01 as you said things seemed to go either a) really cheesy or b) more dark and techy.
At first i didnt like either of those options and only really liked some hard trance, definitely got bored of the same sounds and still cant listen to it a lot.
But the last while say 06/07 there has been a lot of brilliant trance again, is a lot of releases and a lot of crap but the right dj can find enough amazing tunes.
Some still follows the old formula, somes gone more bouncy and hard and the more techy trance i'm quite into aswell. Check the labels "in trance we trust" and "state of trance"
I dont listen as much as i did before but i check out the tunes and odd mix and is very good again to me anyway.

Aye but the reason i didnt keep with hardcore was i didnt like hardly any of the stuff coming out. The scottish sound was long gone and only stuff i heard was really soft happyhardcore, the same tunes were getting played over and over again.
The thing is i dint pay much attention was wondering if there was still good stuff about i've missed

First time rave died supposedly, when it all got Dark and Jungly, I moved into Techno and Breakbeats. Second time around I listened to Old Skool and Big Beat to be honest. Fat Boy Slim didn't seem so far away, I went to House nights as they were happier than minimal techno nights. I got into cheesy eurovsion pop as well. Both times I went around like a prophet talking up its phase about to come and both times was proved right. I agree though both times it did not really die, more went underground and evolved. It was there if you looked for it. Local nights were hard to come by but large events were still there as was new music.
I guess just cos someone is quiet doesn't mean they are dead.

99/2000 was when I got into hardcore... and IMHO it was at it's best then.
However I think I'm the only one who holds this opinion :)
