I dont think buying middle ground equipment does that much damage. You might loose money, but it will make you appreciate the top end stuff a hell of a lot more once you can afford it

what about Event ALP 5's? Anyone ever used them? Are they any good? Better or worse than Rokit 6's?

I have a friend with a pair of those ALP5s.
They sound ok, a bit mid rangy, but very good for whats available in that price range.
