Dougal awhile back when EP had they're website up, recommended Cubase, and if you're going to produce BBHC, what propellerhead????, I'm not ready to purchase but I'm willing to go cheap if other programs do the same thing..... Thank you!

FL Studio is a much more affordable package that's more than enough to make quality music.
Reason is another powerful solution, just keep in mind that it's a "closed" application, i.e. you can't use external plugins or instruments with it.
Other alternatives include: Orion, Ableton Live, ACID.
All have their following and support. I'd suggest FL Studio as it is widely used in the hardcore family, but it's up to you really - just give the trials a shot and choose whatever feels best. :)

Alright thanks, I don't know if I wanna produce yet, it takes a lot of skill to be like UFO or Luna-C, but I am gonna start a radio show, I haven't even gotten to the point of MCing yet, I'm not tight with money but better to eat otherwise I will literally be HTID!

If you've got a PC, I've heard Cubase is without a doubt the way to go. Most new producers tend to go with FL Studio though, considering it's cheap and easy (except for me, who's completely incapable of making it do anything.) I use Acid myself, if only because it's really easy to use, and can do pretty much anything if you've got the right VST's, and is really easy to use.

lol i find fl studio so incredibly easy to use!
well maybe its difficult for some, because the sequence is so vastly different from the other production programs, but fl studio prob has the best stepper.

People say Cubase is expensive... and yes it is, but you don't need to buy the full fledged Cubase to produce Hardcore.
You can get the LE edition (limits some funcitons and only allows 8 VSTs at a time) but imho this is all you need to produce very professional hardcore. Heck it might even work out *cheaper* than FL / Reason etc.
You can get hte LE edition given away with some items such as soundcards...

And btw, for hardware, I'd suggest checking out some of Fisher Price's latest keyboards. Some serious power in those.

^^Oh yeah. All the hardcore breaks producers use Fisher Price nowadays. You really get that old school...heck even pre-school feel to the tracks.
Nothing better imo.

fl studio is just vastly different, in its directions, and especially the sequencer, its just really different. if i had a choice i would start with reason or cubase, if you start with fl studio and get used to it, you will have a hard time changing. with fl studio when u have like 3 z3ta's at one time, the cpu ****s up and it starts getting oh so annoyingly choppy.

With Cubase SX3 I'm using 5 Z3TA's (+ more) on a machine I bought 4
(maybe 5!) years ago... the machine never goes over 50% CPU and never skips a beat.
The machine is an Athlon 2000XP with 512MB and XP.
The more time I spend learning Cubase, the more I learn there are reasons for why things are the way they are.
My current Cubase-related problem is window management - it never seems to get things right when I maximize windows. Basically I'd like to have the sequencer always taking up one full screen of my dual-head setup... but alas that monitor is not quite big enough to fit the whole menu bar! so I have to spread it across two windows and argh.... At least I should be able to rearrange the menu bar!

i think the solution to that is that you cant maximise it... (because that only fills one monitor)
im my short experiance with 2 monitors (uni studio, and when i tried my old monitor with my laptop... but i dnt have room at the mo) i found that it with Cubase open (unmaximised) it is possible to drag the outer window of Cb to fill both monitors... then have the sequencer (unmaximised inside Cb) drag it to one side, and then open the mixer F3 i think, move that to the other side... (mixer as an example)
i think that was what you meant!?
ive been at work all day and all night... (4pm-4am) so im damn tired (and ... pissed off lol)
:)
i hope you enjoy my over use of brackets :P
