I've used the sonar 6 producer edition and It's been amazing so far.
I havent used cubase so I can't compare the 2 but I've heard more people like cubase than sonar.

sonar 6 is way better in my opinion but logic is better again sonar was easer to use i thought
but i recon for ease of use and getting your ideas down before you forget or go off on some wild tangent FL studio 6 and above are better trhe out of the box samples are hidious but you normaly get a genre specific sample pack to start with from another souce other than the provider of the sequencing software you have as even if you happen to find some good samples they will have been stupidly over used
i hav played with most music production softwear and the verry best is Pro tools but you need to be rich to even think about going down that road the softwear needs hardware just to work wich costs a bit i recon the pro tools /digidesign equipment is the best but the cost benifit thing dosent work out so if you have not a lot of money FL Studio 7 and save up for a sound card and multi timbrial synth and some monitors wich is all you need to make tracks ready to take to the studio for final mixdown on buff compressors and EQs or get the waves bundle but at the price of some of them you can almost get half a studio
well that was my pice kinda got off topic at the end but it needed to be said
Fl studio has a much better interface than anything else ever except ejay but ejay is a game not music production software the only reason i can think off that is bad about flstudio is it isnt in many studios so you cant take in raw flp files so you have to export eack track to wav or midi files and take the sounds with you
i have met alot of peeps that say fl is crap but i tell you what they cant tell me how anything else is better

sytrus is one of the best synts around but yes you are right that most of the buit in vst's are not much cop but you could say the same for all of them henc third partys making plugins
toxic is a ok synth and so is poizone
but we are talking about the program not the stuff you are suposta put in to it.
To get best results if you are thinking of changing softwear is to learn the basics of program and oncwe you have it rewire the program you used to use for thing you just cant figger out how to do or cant do on the new software
P.S.
FL studio, cubase , logic, protools ,reason, albeton, are all good it is just how you use them
and none of them are shit
