Anyone wanting to learn how to scratch should check out HOW TO SCRATCH WITH DJ SY on you tube. I found it really useful & my scratching has already improved, although it takes a hell of a lot of practice. If you go to you tube its under the HOW TO SCRATCH category. Check it out!!!

Personal the Sy video is helpful to some one who doesn't now scratch basics, his explanation is shit and he's not even doing it to hardcore so it proves pointless to any one on this site looking to scratch to hardcore. My suggestion is to learn you sample placing, your wrist speed and you gate timing, when people say try to keep the gate open doesn't really know scratching, Gate control (fader) is different for every person learning or every person who knows.
Personally instead of trying to keep the gate open i tried closing it and found my cuts inrpoved tenfold. =)

I have a small video I will complete soon concerntrating on wrist and hand movement for scratching, its all about timing and feeling your timing and co ordination with the fader.
I am not the world best but I have been teaching some DJ's local to me DJ skills etc and scratching and you really can cut the time frame in learning by not jumping to far ahead of yourself and do the boring tasks of just shuffling the record back and forth in time/stagered movements in time/ fast movements and then opening and shutting the fader at the same time, nail this your there..there are some simple rules.
Its much more simple to teach and instruct this, in perosn, but Ill upload the video soon and hope it helps, i'ts more around the basis of co-ordination and timing, not jumping in to crazy scratch patterns that learners dont need to be learning at that stage.
I also have some scratch patterns I done and can upload them. I have done these for people who have asked me as there are at copy cat stage or scratching.
Its a never ending learning curve scratching....
