i've been itching to do this for a while. i'm not saying you'll even be interested!, but as a newish forum member i joined to get an idea of what makes HARDCORE reverred by it's followers. more so than other genres. i'm amazed by the passion and loyalty hardcore fans show. i'm a songwriter with co-writes released. although i always acted with respect, even encouraging feedback for some of the tracks, I wanted to come clean. i've only been writing competively 3 yrs and i'm thinking i'm a lot older than most of you!.. i got my first break in HARDCORE. being honest i never listened to it before the first release. hopefully without sounding maverick, i,m hoping to encourage other songwriters who don't produce. belief and 'drive' is everything. i like to think i write with a lot of emphathy, as a lot of my lyrics are about real thing and real situations. i'd love to hear the finished tracks live, but i really am in the background. do any of them lift the roof? any feedback or thought on them would be well appreciated. i get a lot of inspiration from the HARDCORE genre. if anyone would be interested in seeing them posted (especially high-browed senior members!! lol) i'll post them. hope i dn't sound like a basket-case!!

thanx for any thoughts

thanks for the reply! yeah i co-write for ANGEL EYEZ also. i've been involved from their beginnings. i was hoping i would get some feedback on the tracks, as it helps with inspiration!... everyone's favourite producers are on the mixes??. can't say to much, but i've also got some exciting collabs with NU ENERGY as a songwriter. i'm a big fan of freeform

Paul

Here's some feedback for you mate.

I'm no expert of songwriting or producing, but i do know a good tune when i hear it - and you've been involved in some corkers!

The music aside, some of those lyrics are pretty damn good considering they're 'only' for hardcore tunes. Could go on about them individually but i'll single out 'Twilight' as it's my favourite of the lot. It's easily one of my favourite hardcore tunes of recent years, and the combination of vocals and the tune itself are bang on!

Would love to see some more examples of your work on here - and hopefully it'll encourage some of the producers who post on here to send some work your way!

That all sounds really arse-licky but i honestly do think some of those tunes/lyrics are pretty special!

I have to say, I liked it when I first heard your sound and the lyrics were also cool. My fave's have to be Don't make me wait and Twilight.

I would say that you should stick to the style you have. It just seems to work and that's what the peope like (well, what I like anyway!)

One question, did you write "Together Again", cause that is my fave angel eyez lyrics? :p

thanks for my 2 replies!....in answer to both, 'don't make me wait' and 'twilight' where originally scouse house mixes, mixed by hypasonic aka squad-e (hypasonic being his alias for the scouse house) 'angel eyez' where then 'himitsu'. before NUKLEUZ signed 'twilight' MINISTRY OF SOUND wanted it, but they went cold as there was a bit of unneccasary confusion. we've still got the 'heads of agreement', drat!! incidently hypasonic's version reached no 7 in the PUREDANCE txt top 20, 1 of 2 unsigned tracks in there. enter deejay bee & paul bevan mix. it got hammered by stu - among others - on gone but not forgotten PUREDANCE!. everyone always takes to it in all it's forms. ANDY L who's a seasoned producer/engineer, took me under his wing with 'twilight'. it was our first co-write and i only had the chorus melody/lyric. he wrote the verses and produced what was a very bare idea. the reason i said it's personal is that i envisage everyone thinking the hook is happy and upbeat. in fact it's really dark and sombre for me as it reflects the 'proverbial early hours knock on the door' when you know somethings wrong. it was someone giving me bad news i was suposed to give to my then girlfriend now wife, about her mum. i bottled it and just drove her the short journey home, not telling her. i remember looking at her and saying to myself in a few secs your never gonna be the same. it was the worst feeling me knowing her not. it was unreal and why i wanted those few secs to last forever, hence the escapism in the chorus lyrics. i wanted to be somewhere else (in a twilight, neither here or there). that's why i love writing and love hardcore, it's keeping someone's memory alive for me! and i love the thought of 'TWILIGHT' lifting the roof at clubs. sorry for the epic that may not sound important to some, but it is hardcore related and my above experience brought me to all you thankfully! my motto is, what ever you're thinking of doing musically, if your going for it, go for the throat!!

hope i didn't freak anyone with with my story behind 'TWILIGHT'! on reflection it probably sounded a wee too personal for replies. appologies if so

one thing i would like to know is what people think about scouse-house in relation to hardcore? is there a connection? is scouse-house a hybrid of hardcore. i've noticed a lot of hardcore dj's like mixing scouse vice versa. incidently i'm from liverpool

I always enjoy learning about the meaning behind the song, if you feel like sharing we'll always listen. Great story though, very insightful &... deep heh.

House has had some major influence in how hardcore is produced these days. Every once in a while you'll see someone moaning about a hardcore tune sounding like speed-up scouse =P Which I don't think is far from the truth. The connection is alot of hardcore producers also produce and/or like the scouse sound.

Without trying to sound like an arse licker, these choons are quality. In fact TWILIGHT, BRIGHT STAR, STAY WITH ME & FOREVER & EVER are choons that get played on a very regular basis between me & a big group of hardcore loving friends. There's nothing better than having a good hardcore choon with great female vocals & especially vocals that have meaning too. Keep up the FANTASTIC work!!!

nice to see someone older than me on this site but gto I'm from the old skool in terms of Hardcore music, in other words its the tunes that do it for me! Don't mind vocals in Hardcore music but these days the Uk stuff is full of female vocals on a sped up trance sound! I've heard all the tracks you've mentioned but wouldn't remember one word thats said! I always here the music not the lyrics! but good luck in what your doing!
