I was inspired to start this topic due to a certian rankin topic that ended a bit off topic & old papa silver wasn't very pleased! I want to know if laptops can make it in future of Dance music?
Pay your respects everyone to the legends like Frankie Knuckles, DJ Farley 'jackmaster' Funk, Joe Smooth ect for spining old Disco vinyls in the Clubs of Chicago back in the early 80's! These guys gave us the felling we enjoy today, the art of mixing music seamlessly because the beat is 4/4 not like hiphop when the music breaks in at the end of the first & so on! These guys to me are the real legends of the Dance scene because they are real dj's doing what they can with the limited equipment that they had! These guys called themselves Jackmasters & the ravers where called Jackers & these jackers would pay respects to the jackmaster by dressin up in the most outrageous clothes to bring attention to their selves. Dont know about you but dressing up sounds a bit like British hardcore as we know it. What i'm getting at is that people nowadays have so much equipment & **** all influence in the music & but they hit the internet to try & promote their Rankin styles tracks! Mabey we'll never get that professionalism back!

I use my laptop everytime i am spinning, i have SSL set up along with my TT's!
I love the feel of vinyl and although i have a CDJ i have never really used it much, most times i would just use it for throwing an accapella over something!
With me using a laptop i can have instant doubles, cue points, auto loop, while using relitive mode even if the needle jumps the tune wont skip, since i have been using it IMO i have became alot more creative which in turn makes me a better dj! Also the fact i can download a wav file for less than a third of the price of a record means i can afford to have so much more music and as i spin various styles this is a god send! I still buy vinyl but only if i think the song is increadible and something i could spin sometime down the line, ie not the crap that you need to play out just cause it is new!
Not to sure what you mean about the hiphop, lately i have been trying to spin some hiphop and throw a couple of R&B tracks in the mix as well, the majority of the stuff is 4/4!
Generally speaking with hiphop if the tracks are matched up when the other track is just away to hit the second chorus if you cut the other track in 9 times out of ten the vocal of track 1 should finish just before the vocal will start in track 2 giving you a pretty much perfect transition, but then comes the hard bit IMO hiphop and R&B needs some scratching in the mix unfortuantly i am ****ing usless at this so .............
And as your talking about oldskool check this out, you don't get much more oldskool than that
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msvzuQkLCE0&mode=related&search= Another fact about using mp3's is you can get them for free I don't know of any for hardcore but there is plenty of record pools that are 100% legal! digiwax probably being the biggest! (Hiphop and R&B) there is plenty more although mostly Urban music is what seems to be catered for the best! I know the topic you are refering to and rather than start that crap in here i wil just leave it at that

A DJ's a DJ no matter what you use. Id sure as hell like to have some guy on some 1's and 2's then having some lame jukebox/karoeke (sp?) player all night.
1's= Vinyl, CDJ, Computer, Casette, whatever....
2's= see 1 :D
nobody should care what people use, it's all for the same purpose.

but does no-one think it's taking the feelin out of dance music? All this new equipment changes the way we go about mixing, cutting, scratching & most importantly production!
That's some video FONZ! Don't think you get much older than that!

how does what medium you use determine the feeling of dance music? you're still manipulating a sound source whether it's vinyl, cd, analog, or digital.
yes computers do make things easier but you still have to put forth time and effort into something to make it sound good.
