RV2 is right, its all about how much ass licking u do over here in the UK & how good you are..
Talent isnt nothing really over here, i've heard some piss poor sets by the " Big DJ's " and heard some fantastic sets by the up & comings but they get nowhere.. Its the same on the production side of life tho as well unfortunatley...
RV2, i've got one of ur sets on cd.. cant u just upload it to www.rapidshare.com & pm me the link so i can stick it on my own cd?

I'm not talking about booking exchanges. That's only happened to me ONCE in my entire career and it was for a show I'd assume I would've been booked at in the first place.
I meant that now that I'm a promoter I understand the business side of things alot better. When you book DJs for a multi-thousand dollar event you want to be sure they'll bring in a crowd.
If I see a guy at one of my raves handing hundreds of CDs out, I'll grab one of them and if it's good you can be 100% sure he'll get booked at some point.
Why? Cause I know he'll have a large number of people that recognize the name on a flyer so I have garanteed attendance.
If I book someone nobody knows yet I generally expect them to have given out a few CDs but if they can't (ie don't know how to record) I'll put them in a tagset with an established DJ so the up-and-comer will start being recognized.
I assume few promoters care enough to build someone elses' rep up for them like I've done for a few which is why I'm saying that showing them you have draw is the best thing you can do.
