Hi

I'm planning to get some new (or old) speakers off ebay but i havnt got a clue what to get. I'm currently using my hi fi speakers n it sounds shite.

I have a Behrigner DJX700 miixer so does anyone have any advice on what to get?

I'm looking for good quality aswel as lots of bass and that can fill a large bedroom easily. A link to somewhere on ebay would be very nice

Thanks

What are you looking to spend?

What are you using them for?

What size speakers do you want?

With speakers you get what you pay for and the top brands are the top brands for a reason!

*edit*

Also... Do you have an amp that can run a better set than your current ones?

i wanna spend between 50 - 100 (i dont mind buying second hand) and im only using them to pump hardcore in my room. I still want them to be loud and of good quality though. I'm not too arsed about the size.

I've noticed that you can buy big speakers and they sound shit and you can buy small ones and they sound really good so i dont know really :S

And i've been told by a few people that i dont need an amp because powered speakers are loud enough as it is.

Errrm. You wont get a pair of decent active speakers for that even second hand mate. Maybe some decent passive 6"-8" speakers but nothing more... So you would need an amp as well. Either way you will need more money I'm afraid.

Yes, stay away form big speakers by people like Jamo. Waste of space. You can get small speakers that do a much better job... Size isn't everything.

I have used a pair of Jammo D165's as monitor speakers for years and they do the business, I use a 200W Sony amp with em and they sound good, have no problem with em, not saying that you can't use smaller speakers that sound just as good or better. If you want sound quality then you have to pay for it, amps and speakers are not cheap at all. All my equipment is second hand, apart from my Soundlab 1KW PA speaker, which I use an old Citronic PPX900 PA amp with. I was lucky and got the PPX 900 free because it was broken (fixed it) and payed about £200 for the other amp and speakers. It sounds good and will shake the whole house if thats what your after. Ebay's OK but postage for large stuff is a pain, check your local paper for some good bargins, but remember, you get what you pay for.

I had to buy everything bit by bit and build it up as I could afford to, maybe try and sell what speakers you have to get that bit of extra cash?

I would reccomend overkill as far as this goes too, much better sound quality and life expectancy to get a bigger anp running at 5 or 6 rather than cranking a smaller amp up full.

Keep an eye on ebay for some m-audio bx8's (the old style ones), they were 200 new so id guess around 120 - 150 second hand in good condition

these are the only speakers ive experianced in that price range and they are good for the price. Compared to 300 speakers they lack a little mid range bass, slightly too much low end (but this can be adjusted on the rear as they have settings for the bass) and the highs are slightly mushy, but for the price they are really good, i doubt you would get anything as good for the price

Here's a suggestion Big Banana, For 2 years my dexx have been demoted to the living room cos there aint space for em elsewhere so 1 day i thought id try hookin em up to my cinema surround system :sony subwoofer 190watt rms, centre speaker (mid and high) and 6 small 'surround' speakers, The sound BLEW my socks off. No 2 speaker arrangement can come close to the sound of this thing and the best bit, I payed about £120 for the lot out of "comet clearence centre"(not inc amp) theyve got stores dotted around but they also have an online aution site, Most of the 'electronics' in my gaff are out of this place, its such good value. Used to run pair of Sharp 400watt seperates speakers.

Hope this helps buddy.

Mate that system looks like it could blow your ceiling down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My sub for my system is bout half the size of that thing.
For a bedroom system its perfect if uve got the space.
It will most definately satisfy your needs but remember that you will need a 5 channel amp
(surround amp) Please trust me when i say its a worthy investment, dont forget that u can run your t.v, ure p.c and everythin else thru this!!!!
I splashed out £150 for a brand new Samsung surround amp out of "richer sounds" system worth £500 but if your an ebayer you can get one for a helluva lot less than that

BLEW TONS OF SPEAKERS OVER THE YEARS, THE SURROUND SYSTEM STILL DEFEATS ME!

If you are sticking with Ebay and looking to get a good bang for your buck then the best amp on offer at the mo is the Yamaha RXV396 Its a package with all the speakers and sub its currantly £51 and theres a fair bit of interest 22hours left, i dont have a clue how to lay links on this forum. Sorry mate.

Also look at the pioneer amp (£50) at present VSX709 my mate has a very similar one to this and he payed £300 for it, sounds good too
